Summary
With the launch of the reboot series in 2018, theGod of Warfranchise is much different than it has ever been, but that also means it may never go back to its roots again — especially with the reboot series' massive success. Still, the possibility of aGod of Warremastered collection now looms on the horizon, straddling its white horse of rumors, which means the series very well could eventually take players back in time to the games that started it all. The only hope is that this supposedGod of Warremastered collection won’t rely on nostalgia alone to succeed.
God of War’s remastered collection is currently only backed up by rumors, and Santa Monica has yet to confirm or deny whether any of those rumors are true. Despite any X or Reddit posts claiming therumors of aGod of Warremastered collectionare fact, nothing is certain until that news comes straight from the horse’s mouth. As such, fans would be remiss not to take everything they hear from unconfirmed sources with a grain of salt. That being said, should these rumors turn out to be true, the supposedGod of Warremastered collection has an obvious release window that it should target: March 2025.
The Rumored God of War Remastered Collection Should Target March 2025
March 2025 Is the God of War Franchise’s 20th Anniversary
While it might seem unbelievable to some that so much time has passed since theGod of Warfranchise began, it will officially be 20 years old on June 10, 2025.The firstGod of Wargameintroduced players to the iconic warrior Kratos and his quest for revenge against his former mentor Ares, who tricked Kratos into killing his own wife and child. There had not been anything quite as bold asGod of Warat the time, and the series only grew bolder from there.
That boldness has been even further felt in the newGod of Warreboot series, which has largely centered around Kratos' deconstruction as he attempts to forgive himself for his brutal, vengeful, blood-splattered past.
With theGod of Warfranchise’s 20th anniversary quickly approaching, assuming the rumors about aGod of Warremastered collection are true, there is arguably no better release window than the end of March 2025. Unfortunately, while July 14, 2025, will be the true 20th-anniversary date for theGod of Warfranchise, there would be a bit of an issue with launching the remastered collection on that day.
The main obstacle to releasing aGod of Warremastered collection on the exact day of the franchise’s 20th anniversary is that its actual 2025 anniversary date falls on a Saturday. As such, since games are generally released on Monday-Tuesday or Thursday-Friday, it would need to aim for Friday, July 22, 2025, instead. However, that would still be just a day before the true anniversary date, allowing players to enjoy the collection over the weekend in honor of theGod of Warfranchise’s 20th anniversary.
A God of War Remastered Collection Might Opt for a 20th Anniversary Reveal Instead
It would likely mean much more if the supposedGod of Warremastered collection were to actually be released on the weekend of June 10, 2025. However, since no official announcement has been made about the game yet, it could potentially opt for a20th-anniversary reveal. While this would make sense (and even give Santa Monica a chance to announce bonus anniversary content being added to the original games), it might as well go ahead and stealth-launch the collection instead. This would ultimately kill two birds with one stone and give fans both a reason and a means to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise they hold dear.
