It is clear to see whyHogwarts Legacywas so well received by fans, with the 2023 title offering one of the most captivating and detailed portrayals of theHarry Potteruniverse that players have ever seen. The game did extremely well to portray the magic and charm of the wizarding school that it is named after, presenting a pretty complete overall experience of Hogwarts' student life.

Despite this, there were certain elements of the IP thatHogwarts Legacymissed out on, much to the dismay of fans, giving good cause for a sequel to potentially be released further down the line. While there are certain things that a sequel could introduce, many fans would like to see Quidditch make a detailed appearance, and this may not be as simple as it initially seems to be. The recently releasedQuidditch Championstried to adapt the magical sport to gaming, and aHogwarts Legacysequel would run into the same unavoidable issue.

Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy 2 Will Struggle to Make Each Role Feel Rewarding

In the pre-release run forHogwarts Legacy, many fans were certain that Quidditch would be a staple feature of the title. With the game focusing so heavily on Hogwarts itself, it seemed guaranteed that the wizarding world’s most famous sport would be available to players. These hopes were quickly dashed prior to release, with it being confirmed thatQuidditch would not feature whatsoever inHogwarts Legacy. While players can visit the Quidditch grounds, there are no gameplay opportunities involving the sport, with this being a notable absence in the title’s detailed portrayal of Hogwarts.

Despite this, fans initially could take some solace in the fact thatQuidditch Championswould release not long afterHogwarts Legacy, withChampionsonly recently launching and having a complete focus on the sport itself.Quidditch Championsallows fans to choose from four positions – Chaser, Keeper, Beater, and Seeker – with each role coming with unique responsibilities and playstyles for players to adapt to.

While it is extremely important to feature this gameplay variety, any representation of Quidditchalways struggles with the immense power and excitement of the Seeker role compared to the others. The seeker role in Quidditch was written to accommodate Harry Potter as a main character, with the Seeker having the ability to end the game at any point by catching the Golden Snitch. Seeker gameplay is usually considered much more desirable and rewarding than the other roles available in Quidditch, and it can be difficult for a title to flesh out the other positions in a way that rivals this.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Might Struggle to Keep its Quidditch Roles Equally Engaging

Any Quidditch game needs to find balance by making roles like Keeper and Beater as rewarding as Seeker, while ensuring that the Seeker role does not feel too overpowered in the grand scheme of things. WhileQuidditch Championsdoes fairly well at achieving this, the much wider scale and more grounded movement of a potentialHogwarts Legacysequel would make finding this balance even more difficult.

Of course,Hogwarts Legacycould simply only feature the Seeker role for its potential Quidditch gameplay, but fans may be expecting a much more thorough portrayal of the sport as seen inQuidditch Champions. A comprehensive Quidditch feature could also be a huge part of the multiplayer experience ofHogwarts Legacy 2, and this would be much better off with a range of roles to choose from. While it would be nice to seeQuidditch finally appear in a potential sequel toHogwarts Legacy, it will be difficult to maintain a balance of excitement and gameplay opportunities between the sport’s drastically different positions.
