Summary

Despite being Agatha Harkness’ show,Agatha All Alonghas received a lot of attention for its connection to the Scarlet Witch. The Disney+ series is a spin-off of 2021’sWandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, but now it seems it could also serve as the character’s way back into the MCU.

Wanda Maximoff is a fan-favorite character of many in the MCU andWandaVisionfinally gave the character her own project to shine in, after Olsen starred in threeAvengersmovies andCaptain America: Civil War. WandaVisionpicked up Wanda’s story afterEndgame, where she had built a fantasy life for herself during her grief for her lover, Vision. Agatha Harkness was one of the inhabitants of Wanda’s hex, who helped the Scarlet Witch come into her power (with ideas of then stealing it). Wanda then trapped Agatha in a spell and left her to live out her days in Westview, until she was eventually broken free inAgatha All Alongand agreed to venture down the Witches’ Road. WhileAgatha All Alonghas largely centered around Agatha’s journey, it has also provided many hints and references to Wanda Maximoff.

Agatha All Along Provides Cryptic Clue About Wanda Maximoff’s Fate

What Happened to Wanda Maximoff?

Wanda’s story was continued in the MCU inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she became the antagonist of the film due to the corruption from the Darkhold which caused her to meddle with the multiverse and hunt down her long-lost twins,Billy and Tommy Maximoff. At the end of the film, after realizing her errors, Wanda brings a mountain down upon herself to destroy the Darkhold and end its corruption. However, this act also seemed to end Wanda’s life as well.

Is the Scarlet Witch Really Dead?

Without having ever seen the Scarlet Witch’s body as proof, many fans are adamant she will return to the MCU.Agatha All Alonghas been sure to leave many cryptic hints about Wanda’s fate. In the opening episode, Agatha is depicted as a detective who is investigating the death of a woman with scarlet hair and ink-black fingers. At one point, the woman’s death is said to be caused by her being crushed by something heavy, which is a reference toWanda’s death inMultiverse of Madness. Additionally, while trying to break Agatha out of Wanda’s enchantments, Rio Vidal tells her “That witch is gone.”

Episode 6 ofAgatha All Alongheld one of the most overt references to the Scarlet Witch as it was revealed thatJoe Locke’s Teen was her grown-up son, Billy. In Episode 7, Billy questions Agatha further about the fate of his mother, asking “Is Wanda Maximoff really dead?” Agatha provides a cryptic response saying “Yes. No. Maybe.” Billy questions further, asking if Agatha saw a body, which she confirms, but when he asks if anyone else witnessed it, Agatha responds with “It’s hard to say.” This interaction is hardlya confirmation that Wanda is dead or alive, but it also doesn’t deny either outcome, which is clearly what Marvel wants fans to think.

How Scarlet Witch Could Be Resurrected in the MCU

Episode 7 ofAgatha All Alongalso introduced a very important life-altering character to the MCU, that being Aubrey Plaza’s Death.Death, sometimes known as Lady Deathwhile in human form, is a powerful being in Marvel Comics who harbors the power to kill or resurrect anyone. It’s unclear how closely Death’s powers will translate into the MCU version. In Episode 7, Death is seen coming for Lilia Calderu, who dies during her trial on the Witches’ Road. It also appears from exchanges between her and Agatha that Death has been around to collect bodies anytime they drop. Hence, the duo share a close bond as Agatha has killed many witches over the years by the nature of her powers.

Now that Death has been introduced as a player in the MCU, and in aWandaVisionspin-off show no less, it’s possible she could be the key to bringing back the Scarlet Witch. While it may be too much to squeeze a significant event like Wanda’s resurrection into the final episodes ofAgatha All Along, rumor has it this won’t be the onlyproject in which Aubrey Plaza’s character appears in. Death has definitely been introduced into the MCU for a reason, and Marvel Studios may utilize the character to undo certain character deaths, where it makes narrative sense to do so.

One of these situations would be Scarlet Witch’s fate as fans have long campaigned for the character to get a solo film. Marvel Studios also seems to be interested in fleshing out all the characters around Wanda, with Billy getting a leading role inAgatha All Along, andVision set to return in his Disney+ seriesin a couple of years. All that’s left now is for Marvel to bring back the heart of the family, Wanda herself, which could be made that much easier now that Death is part of the narrative.
