What Does Billy Maximoff Want From the Witches Road?

After learning his true identity, it’s Billy Maximoff who breaks Agatha Harkness out of Wanda’s spell in Westview and entrusts her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road. The road is said to be able to grant those who walk it whatever they most desire, and Agatha is the only known survivor of the road, hence Billy seeks her out. For the majority ofAgatha All Along, Billy’s identity had been kept secretby a sigil cast by Lilia Calderu, which prevented him from revealing his real name to the witches. This was finally broken in Episode 6 and allowed Billy to reveal his powers and identity.

While Billy no longer trusts Agatha, the two agree to continue down the road so that they may reach the end and achieve their desires. But what are Billy’s intentions for the road? Does he want to resurrect his mother or rebuild his father? Does he want his own body? No. Billy reveals to Agatha in Episode 6 that he simply wants to be reunited with his lost twin, Tommy Maximoff. While he knows thathis mother Wanda is deadand his father, Vision, has been dismantled, he doesn’t know the fate of his brother, and so desires to reconnect with him more than anything else.

Tommy Maximoff was introduced as one of Wanda’s fast-growing children inWandaVision. For the majority of the series, he was portrayed as a young boy (played by Jett Klyne) who had inherited the super-speedpowers of his uncle, Pietro (aka Quicksilver). Tommy is depicted similarly in the comics and eventually goes on to become the Young Avenger known as Speed. Given that Billy’s backstory inAgatha All Alongwas adapted so similarly to that of his history in the comics, it seems logical to assume that Marvel may do a similar thing with Tommy Maximoff.

In the comics, Tommy Maximoff’s soul is transferred into the body of Thomas Shepherd. Living in Springfield, New Jersey as the son of divorced parents, Tommy found himself in and out of juvenile prisons for much of his adolescence. At one point in the comics, Tommy accidentally used his powers to destroy his high school, which resulted in him being convicted and locked up in a high-security prison for super-powered humans. While locked up, his brother,Wiccan, and the other Young Avengerswere able to track him down using the Avengers Fail-Safe program, which helped Iron Lad locate and gather the members of their team. After breaking Tommy out of prison, he and Billy realize they are twins and reconnect.

Are the Young Avengers Coming?

As for where Tommy Maximoff is in the MCU right now, it’s unclear. However, it seems likely that, similar to Billy, Tommy’s soul would have been transferred into the body of another teenager, most likely Thomas Shepherd. The wayAgatha All Alongis headed, it seems like Billy may discover the location of his brother at the end of the road and, if it is anything like the comics, he may have to break his twin out of prison.

Given the limited nature of Agatha All Along, it doesn’t seem feasible that everything between Billy and Tommy will be achieved in the remaining three episodes of the series. However, that doesn’t rule out the twins from appearing in future Marvel projects, and perhaps the ending ofAgatha All Alongcould continue to pave the way for a Young Avengers team-up. Some of the other members of the team, including Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Cassie Lang, and Riri Williams have already been introduced in other MCU projects.Kate Bishop and Kamala Khan even metin the post-credits tease forThe Marvels, where it was suggested they would be forming a new team that will likely go on to become the Young Avengers.

Billy needs the Young Avengers' help in Marvel comics to rescue his twin, so this could be the team’s first mission when they eventually make their debut on-screen in the MCU. A new actor has not been announced in the role of Tommy Maximoff, but perhaps this is a reveal that will occur at the end ofAgatha All Along.
