In it,Monster Summerstar Abby James Witherspoon does her best to explain what thisPG-13 horror filmis about while navigating a haunted house at Knott’s Scary Farm, a seasonal Halloween event held by Buena Park, California-based Knott’s Berry Farm. That turns out to be easier said than done, not least because the spooky venue is constantly throwing jump scares her way.
After finally managing to go over the film’s basic premise following several interrupted attempts, Witherspoon also reveals that her favorite experience on the set was collaborating with the cast on avariety of stunt scenesthat are featured near the end of the movie. “It was so much fun,” theMonster Summerstar recalled.
The retired private detective that Witherspoon’s character and her friends team up with over the course of the movie is played byHollywood mainstay Mel Gibson. Aside from the Academy Award-winning filmmaker,Monster Summer’s cast also includes Lorraine Bracco ofGoodfellasandThe Sopranosfame. Kevin James, best known for his role of Doug Heffernan inThe King of Queens, plays a supporting role as well. Besides Witherspoon, the main cast includes Mason Thames, Julian Lerner, Noah Cottrell, Nora Zehetner, and Patrick Renna. The film was directed by David Henrie based on a screenplay penned by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz.
Monster Summer Now Playing in Theaters Stateside
Monster Summeris premiering in theaters across the United States later today, October 4. Its distribution is handled by Pastime Pictures, which also had a hand in producing the movie, alongside Nickel City Pictures, Novo Media Group, and Reserve Entertainment.
