Summary

After what has felt like an interminable wait,Arcanefans finally got some very good news earlier this year when they were informed that the Netflix original series will return in November. The bad news is that when the show—based on theLeague of Legendsvideo game—does launch its second season, it will also be the final season.

Since its first appearance in 2021,Arcanehas seemingly broken the Netflix mold in several different ways. Not the least of which is that it took fans a whopping three years to get another look atVi, Jinx, andthe rest. That’s one of the reasons that people are so sad that it’s going to be last installment. However, the series has promised that it will be a heck of an ending. And there is the added bonus that the writers know this is the final installation, so they’ve been able to prepare for it. There is another way in which Arcane is breaking the Netflix release mold and it seems to indicate that even the streamer knows it has an exceptional product on its hands.

Arcane Season 2: A Trend Or A One-Off?

Since its first arrival on Netflix,Arcanehas been little bit different than other original programming. While the streamer has set the standard when it comes to adapting video games to movies or television series,Arcanehas had an even moreloyal fanbase that people who are quite dedicated to programs likeCastlevania. Interestingly enough it appears that the streaming service knew from the outset that followers of this series were a little bit different. That’s why Season 2 will be released in three installments of three episodes each, rather than simply dropping all nine episodes simultaneously.

Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), Ella Purnell (Jinx), Harry Lloyd (Victor), Jason Spisak (Silco)

Where to Watch

Netflix

The staggered release isn’t completely unheard of, but it’s used quite rarely by Netflix and it tends to be a sign that the company knows it has a big hit on its hands. That of course begs the question as to why theseries is getting canceledat all if the people in charge know just how beloved it is.

Arcane Season 2 will release three episodes a week starting on November 9

WhenArcaneSeason 2 does arrive, the first three episodeswill arrive on November 9with the second installment coming on November 16 and then the final three episodes of the series will air on Netflix on November 23. That of course means viewers can finish watching Arcane as they polish off their turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. If they can wait a few days to take in the adventure. There will be aspecial after show for eachof the installments that will explain the lore and the characters and what the audience saw. That too is something that isn’t a totally new thing but it’s certainly not something Netflix does with every single original series.

Arcane Season 2 Not Completely Unprecedented

It’s not thatArcaneSeason 2 is totally unprecedented that makes this a show that’s breaking the mold. After all,Season 1 of the popular video game adaptationdid the same thing and there’s a very good reason why Netflix does this. It appears this is done for shows that have a big following, especially on social media, because it’s harder to spoil the major plot points and twists.

That’s certainly a nice little head nod to people who might not be able to sit down and watch all nine episodes all at once. It allows people to not have to completely avoid social media to enjoy the show. Granted, fans ofArcaneare going to want to watch those first three installments right when they launch. The fact that this is the final season is going to have people rushing to social media in a big way.Who lives and who dies in Season 2are going to be especially hot topics.

While Netlfix can’t completely avoid peoplefinding out who survivesfrom one episode of Arcane to the next, they can make it a little easier for people to avoid that kind of info if they want. The streamer has done this kind of installment drop here and there, though they tend to reserve it for very rare occasions.

Keep in mind that evenStranger Things, one of the service’s biggest shows ever, normally saw each season released at once. It wasonly the latest seasonthat saw a staggered release. Perhaps the most famous show that the streaming service did this installment release rather than one full season all at once was theFear StreetTrilogy.

Putting all the different factorstogether forArcaneSeason 2and it really does seem like the show has broken the Netflix mold. The fact that viewers will have to wait for some episodes to launch after Season 2 officially arrives, the fact that it’s been so long since Season 1 was released and that a very popular series is coming to an end. The show isn’t getting unprecedented treatment but it’s certainly something that just isn’t seen all that often on Netflix.
