Summary
The release ofArcane: League of Legends’second season is fast approaching on Netflix, and it turns out fans will not only get new episodes in November, but a bonus after-show as well.
Arcaneadapts Riot’s popular online multiplayer battle arena game for the screen, building out the backstory of the champions many players know and love, as well as the history of Runeterra. Season 1 focuses on siblings, Jinx and Vi who find themselves on opposite sides of a brewing war between Piltover and Zaun. Season 2 ofArcanewas confirmed by Netflix back in 2021 and has been in the works for three years while the animation company, Fortiche, works to recreate the series' signature style in a new crop of episodes.
During Netflix’s recentGeeked Week presentation on YouTube, the streamer confirmedArcaneSeason 2 would be released in three parts on November 9, November 16, and November 23, which mirrors the release strategy of the first season. Cast members Hailee Steinfeld (Vi) and Ella Purnell (Jinx) also appeared to announce thatArcaneseason 2 would be receiving a special after-show on Netflix, titledArcane Afterglow. “That’s not all, we’ll be filming theArcane Afterglow, our official after-show, where we unpack each episode,” Purnell said during the presentation. The show will seemingly include discussions with special guests, a deep dive into the making of the series, and provide answers to fans' burning questions.
Netflix did not reveal whenArcane Afterglowwould be released, just that it is “coming soon”. It also hasn’t been defined whether there will be an after-show weekly for each drop ofepisodes in season 2 ofArcane, or whether it will all be contained in one post-show released after the finale airs on November 23. This isn’t the first time Netflix has released an official post-show for one of its major titles, having done the same thing forThe Witcher’sthird season andStranger Things 4. Each after-show is typically set up in a roundtable or talk-show format, with cast members sharing extra insight into the series and behind-the-scenes stories from the set. Felicia Day has served as host for many of Netflix’s after-shows, but a host forArcane Afterglowhas not been revealed yet.
WhenArcane’ssecond season releases in November it will pick up directly with the aftermath of Jinx’s attack on the Piltover council, which left the fate of many key characters hanging in the balance. Season 2 will also bring to a conclusion the story of Vi and Jinx. Co-creator Christian Linke revealed in June thatArcaneseason 2 would end this specificLeague of Legendsstory, but that it would not be the end of the studio’s storytelling in Runeterra. This has opened the door for future seasons ofArcaneto focus on other champions fromLeague of Legends, potentially in an anthology style.
Arcaneseason 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Season 2 will begin streaming November 9.
