Arcane Season 2 Trailer Blends The Past and Future

On October 16, Netflix released a new series trailer forArcaneon YouTube, which serves as a recap of Season 1 whilst also hinting at what’s to come in Season 2. The plot ofArcanetakes place over several years, with Jinx and Vi first appearing as children in Act 1, before skipping ahead years to find them as young adults. This latest trailer explains the immensejourney the characters are on inArcaneand also includes appearances from characters both alive and dead.

One character whose appearance in the trailer is notable isVander, Jinx and Vi’s adoptive father. Following the death of their parents at the hands of enforcers, Vander takes Jinx (known then as Powder) and Vi in as his own and raises them in the undercity. He teaches Vi to fight and instills a sense of responsibility in her as the older sibling. This is reiterated in the latestArcanetrailer as Vander tells Vi to “protect the family”, which is what drives her to look after Powder and find her again after she is released from prison years later. Unfortunately, however, Vander sacrifices everything for his family in Episode 3 ofArcane. To protect Vi, Claggor, and Mylo, from Silco, Vander injects himself with Shimmer which turns him into a superhuman. But he dies when Powder’s monkey bomb blows up the whole building. Or so it seems.

A Closer Look at Werewolf Warwick

A popular fan theory amongst theArcanefandom is that Vander will return in Season 2 ofArcane, but perhaps in a different form. One fan-favorite character who seems to make anappearance in the new season ofArcaneis Warwick. TheLeague of Legendschampion is a werewolf who has been modified by machinery and chemicals to become a deadly force to be reckoned with. Warwick’s arrival was first teased in the background of Singed’s laboratory in Season 1, where a giant wolf-like beast could be seen hanging from the ceiling, attached to a series of pumps.

Warwick is teased again inArcane’sseries trailer, in a scene that shows a giant werewolf silhouette with glowing red eyes. It appears that whatever experimental beast Singed was working on in Season 1 is put to work in Season 2. There’s no confirmation that this creature is Vander, but fans predict that this is a way the creators can resurrect the character. Vander’s body was never seen after the explosion, so it’s entirely possible Singed collected it for his experiments. Vander was also already very strong as a human, so Singed would likely see him as a good candidate for his experiments, in the hopes he could create a more powerful weapon. There’s also the fact that Warwick doesn’t have much ofa backstory inLeague of Legendslore, so using him to resurrect Vander is a way to flesh out his character while also making it relevant to the story ofArcane.

Arcaneas a series has a habit of bringing things full circle, and bringing Vander back in Season 2 could be the perfect foil for its characters, particularly Vi and Jinx. At one point, Vi can be seen standing in front of the werewolf silhouette, and if this does turn out to be Vander, it would force Vi to fight her father, similar to howJinx had to reckon with Silco in Season 1. Vander’s death is also one that no doubt haunts Jinx, so his return could be the key to resolving some of her trauma. The newArcanetrailer is seemingly intentional in reminding viewers of Vander and the impact of his death, so this could be a way of paving the way for his return in Season 2.

Will Other Characters Return in Arcane Season 2?

At first glance, it might seem likeArcane’snew series trailer is confirming the return of some characters whose fate is unknown, specifically Mel, Jayce, and Viktor. The trio were all in the council chambers at the time of Jinx’s attack, butthe cliffhanger ending ofArcaneSeason 1means it is unclear whether any of them survived. However, a closer look at the trailer footage confirms the scenes featuring Jayce, Viktor, and Mel al took place in Season 1, leaving their fate still undetermined.

It would be a bold move forArcaneto kill off three of its major characters, but with the series coming to an end in Season 2, no one is safe. Mel’s mother, Ambessa, also seems to be on a warpath inArcaneSeason 2, as she says in the trailer"We do not lament death, we avenge it.“This seems to suggest she may be out to avenge her daughter’s death in Season 2 by going to war, which means things aren’t looking good for Mel and the rest of the Piltover council.

ArcaneSeason 2will be released on Netflix in three parts on November 9, November 16 and November 23.
