ArcaneSeason 2 has been highly anticipated since the first season’s final episode premiered on July 01, 2025. Set to pick up right after Jinx assassinates the Piltover council, theArcaneSeason 2 trailerteases Jinx rising as a symbol of Zaun, an intense confrontation with Enforcers Vi and Caitlyn, Jayce’s Mercury Hammer, and much more. The upcoming season, divided into three acts releasing on November 9, 16, and 23, has fans eagerly awaiting the return of the critically acclaimedLeague of Legends-inspired series.
For some fans, hearing thatArcanewould conclude with its second season may have come as a disappointment. However, co-creator Christian Linke clarified the reasoning behind the decision in a brief message, stating, “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story ofArcanewraps up with this second season. ButArcaneis just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.” Considering thatLeague of Legendscurrently boasts 160 champions, this is great news for its vibrant roster of characters. However, there is a way that Riot Games could make season 2’s ending more open-ended.
Riot Is Actively Developing New League of Legends' Series
A Third Season of Arcane Could Feature New Champions
A show orfilm based onValorantset in Runeterra wouldn’t make sense, as the developers have established them as separate universes. However, the champions ofLeague of Legendsare all intertwined within the same planet. GivenArcane’s immense success, it seems only natural for Riot to continue capitalizing on it.
Valorantwas originally considered to be part of Runeterra, but Riot later shifted course, establishing its world as a version of near-future Earth instead.
Currently, Riot has developed or is working on the followinggames set in theLeague of Legendsuniverse:
With a wealth of stories unfolding in the game world, comics, and books, there’s a wide variety ofRuneterra andLeague of Legendsloreto delve into. However, progress in the film and TV medium has been limited toArcaneand short cinematics, which have been consistently released since the MOBA’s debut in 2009. Fortunately, as far back as 2021, Riot’s president of entertainment, Shauna Spenley, indicated that more projects are in the works for both big and small screens, though she noted that “[it was] going to take a little time.”
Riot’s Arcane Has More Potential Beyond Jinx and Vi
While there are clear advantages to keepingArcaneas a standalone story, exploring a third season from the perspective of a different character could be an intriguing direction. After all, it’s not unusual for shows to change protagonists once their narrative has reached a satisfying conclusion. Interestingly, several champions not directly tied to the main storyline, such as Ryze, have already been teased. Some fans speculate that he was already shown in Episode 2 of Season 1, and this theory gained traction after he was potentially spotted near the end ofArcaneSeason 2’s official trailer.
Similarly,ArcaneSeason 1 features several champions, and this season will see the addition of new characters, including Warwick, Orianna, and Janna. Additionally, Mundo, Twitch, and Urgot have also been hinted at. As such, instead of concludingArcanein November, it might be advantageous to introduce a new main character in one of the aforementioned champions. Regardless, even if this is a definitive end forArcane, as has been projected by the showrunners, future shows could easily delve into the hundreds of vibrant stories of other champions. Still, it could be nice for new projects to include nods to the conflict between Piltover and Zaun.
