TheAssassin’s Creedfranchise finds itself in some troubled waters. According to recent reports, the last few years haven’t been as profitable as Ubisoft would have liked, and in the wake ofStar Wars Outlawsunderperforming, the developer/publisher has seemingly hit the panic button.Assassin’s Creed Shadowshas been delayed to next February, and there’s currently no official word on previously announced games likeAssassin’s Creed Hexe,Assassin’s Creed Infinity, orAssassin’s Creed Invictus.
Announced alongsideInfinity,Hexe,Nexus,Jade, andShadows(the formerly-codenamedRed),Assassin’s Creed Invictushas had virtually no official news since its reveal in October 2022. All fans know is thatInvictuswill be some kind of online multiplayer game. But a recent rumor has started making the rounds online, and if it’s true,Assassin’s Creed Invictusmight be going in a different direction than what some fans want.
Hopefully, There’s More to Assassin’s Creed Invictus' Fall Guys-Like Structure Than Meets the Eye
Assassin’s Creed Invictus' Rumored Fall Guys Structure Explained
According to a recent Twitter post by renownedAssassin’s Creedleaker, j0nathan, which was first reported on by Eurogamer’s Vikki Blake,Assassin’s Creed Invictuswill have aFall Guys-inspired gameplay structure. According to this leak,Invictuswill see 16 players compete in a series of knockout challenges. Some of these challenges allegedly include team deathmatch, free-for-all, and a parkour speed challenge that sees players run through checkpoints.
Winning a challenge will let players progress to the next round. As they progress through the tournament, players will gradually forge a build that can be used in the final challenge, likely gaining some kind of power-ups that would help them in the last battle.Invictuswill apparently let players take control of a range of avatars, all based oniconicAssassin’s Creedcharacters. According to j0nathan, Ezio and Cesare Borgia are confirmed to be in the game as playable avatars.
This recent leak also suggests thatAssassin’s Creed Invictuswill feature a plethora of maps based on pastAssassin’s Creedsettings. j0nathan’s original Tweet mentions aBlack Flag-inspired “paradise island,” aMirage-inspired Baghdad, and anAssassin’s Creed Shadows-inspired Japan.
Assassin’s Creed Invictus' Rumored Gameplay Could Upset Some Fans
Perhaps the most controversial part of j0nathan’s leak is thatAssassin’s Creed Invictus' gameplaywill allegedly have an “arcade” feel, with strikes having little impact, and players being able to use abilities such as aSuper Smash Bros.-like bubble shield. If this leak is true, thenAssassin’s Creed Invictuscould end up upsetting a lot of long-timeACfans, as having weighty, grounded combat has always been a staple of the series. Without weighty combat, and with a structure more akin toFall Guysthan pastACmultiplayer modes,Invictusmight not feel like a trueAssassin’s Creedgame.
Assassin’s Creed Invictus' Bigger Picture Hasn’t Been Revealed Yet
But it’s important to note that fans don’t have the full picture just yet. WhileAssassin’s Creed Invictus' rumored gameplay and structureprobably aren’t what fans had in mind for the franchise’s next multiplayer outing, they’re not inherently awful ideas. And the Animus can easily function as a quick and concise in-universe explanation for these multiplayer tournaments. Fans need to wait until a full reveal before they get too upset over whatAssassin’s Creed Invictuscould or couldn’t look like.
