Summary

TwoAvengersmovies are coming up, and oneX-Mencharacter, who fans have been waiting to see on the big screen again, will join one of the films. The iconic character was last seen inDoctor Strange 2.

X-Mencharacters have been making an appearance in theMCUfilms after Disney acquired Fox in March 2019, giving Marvel Studios the film rights for theX-Menfranchise,a reboot is even in development. Also, Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the hitDeadpool & Wolverinereceived a warm reception among fans. There are rumors that another powerfulX-Mencharacter will return to the cinema by joiningAvengers 6. Many have been clamoring for his return, so seeing him inSecret Warswill surely be a treat to his fans.

According to movie insiderMTTSHon X, formerly Twitter, Sir Patrick Stewart, who portrayed Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) in theX-Menfranchise, has been confirmed to joinAvengers: Secret Wars. Stewart made his debut inX-Men(2000) as Professor X, the founder ofX-Men. He has since been a massive part of the franchise by portraying the teacher who advocates for mutant rights. The powerful character is known for his mind control, psychic, and telepathic abilities. Stewart has reprised the role in multiple movies, includingX2: X-Men United(2003),X-Men: The Last Stand(2006),X-Men Origins: Wolverine(2009),The Wolverine(2013),X-Men: Days of Future Past(2014),Logan(2017), andDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(2022). Stewart’s return might receive mixed reactions because his character has been slain multiple times. Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, ripped his head off in theDoctor Strangesequel.

Both Stewart and Jackman announced their retirement from theirX-Menroles in 2017. Stewart said that his character’s death inLoganwould be the last time fans would see him portray the mutant. However, both changed their minds and returned to the big screen, Stewart inDoctor Strange and the Multiverse of MadnessandJackman inDeadpool & Wolverine. Stewart even teased thathe could appear inDeadpool 3. Stewart wasn’t spotted in the most recent Marvel movie, but he had already hinted that Professor X was still alive. “I have every confidence he’s still around,” Stewart said about Professor X after he appeared inMultiverse of Madness,Varietyreported.

Stewart has died multiple times in theX-Menfranchise, but it’s always possible to bring him back because Marvel is Multiverse. Professor X is probably dead in one universe but alive in its alternate universes. Also, given the history of Stewart’s character returning from the dead multiple times, seeing him again on the big screen is unsurprising. In fact, some were expecting his comeback and were disappointed he wasn’t in the lastDeadpoolfilm.

Professor X’s presence inAvengers: Secret Warsmakes sense because he andDoctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)have notable interactions in Marvel Comics. Doctor Doom is expected to joinAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. In theSecret Warsstoryline, Doctor Doom develops near-omnipotent power and his actions affect the Marvel multiverse, including his relationship with theX-Men. The dominant and controlling Doctor Doom has a different approach compared to Professor X when it comes to handling mutants, which could spark conflict between the two.
