ABaldur’s Gate 3player online has made a massive mistake while creating their Guardian at the start of the game, with other players pointing out the unfortunate error. TheBaldur’s Gate 3player was ready to start their adventure before being made to regret the mistake.
At the start ofBaldur’s Gate 3, players get to customize their own character, as well as a Guardian who will aid them throughout the game. It is purposefully vague about the purpose of the Guardian until later in the story, leading many players to spend lots of time customizing them alongside their Tav. Some players even make one to complement the other, with oneBaldur’s Gate 3player creating Barbie and Ken as Tav and the Guardian. The Guardian is eventually revealed to be an illithid, which can shine the relationship between players and their Guardians in a whole new light.
That’s exactly what happened to Redditor northfroster, who attempted to make aBaldur’s Gate 3Guardianwho represents their character’s mother. It’s a cute idea in theory, but there’s one problem. Later on inBaldur’s Gate 3, when the Guardian is revealed to be the Emperor, they make advances on the player, making them one of the game’s romance options. Plenty of gamers in the thread were very quick to point this out to northfroster, who simply said, “So… I kind of forgot about that…”

Removing this obvious hurdle out of the equation, this is actually a cool concept for a Guardian. With northfroster’s Tav being both aBaldur’s Gate 3Dark Urgecharacter as well as a Drow, “killing their mother is going to be natural” according to the user. While it’s needless to say, they did also clarify that thisBaldur’s Gate 3run will be “very anti emperor/guardian.”
Although Larian still has some features like crossplay and photo mode to come fromBaldur’s Gate 3, the studio has largely moved on from its 2023 hit, with no DLC confirmed to be on the way. It’s an interesting but respectable choice from the studio, which is moving on to its own projects going forward. Earlier this month,Swen Vincke confirmed Larian’s next game may not release until 2029, which is sure to come as sad news to fans of the developer. It makes sense though. Games of the scale Larian is looking to create should take years, even with a large team, and the studio has never seemed to be the type to rush products out the door underbaked.
