Batman DCU James Gunn

MyTimeToShineHelloshared an X post claiming Gunn and DC Studios want to cast a middle-aged actor to play Batman. While MyTimeToShineHello didn’t say they were being considered for the role, their post included images of Josh Hartnett, Jake Gyllenhaal, andThe Penguinactor Colin Farrell. The Batman cast rumor seemingly caught Gunn’s attention afterSmall Screenreported the ‘news,’ prompting him to share the story on Threads and add “[bulls**t].” While Gunn has previously noted that sometimes scoopers share news that isn’t correct because their sources provided bad information, he called out this latest Batman cast rumor as deliberate misinformation:

Sometimes the rumors folks get information wrong - but other times they seem to just make up stuff for clicks out of whole cloth. This is one of the latter.

Batman DCU James Gunn Threads 1

Because Gunn shared Small Screen’s post when debunking the Batman cast rumors, one Threads user felt the need to point out that the online publication was not the source of the rumor. Gunn responded by clarifying that he did not intend to say Small Screen was “being dishonest.” In response, Small Screen wrote on Threads, “Thank you! That actually means a lot coming from you! I’ve taken the post down, and I really apologize. It sounded cool, but I’m very excited to see who ends up being cast as the DCU’s Batman! It all comes from a place of love, passion, and excitement.” Gunn replied by reiterating that Small Screen did not originate the rumor.

Seemingly undeterred, MyTimeToShineHello responded to Gunn by sharing another X post, writing, “Remember when the Superman suit and Ultraman were ‘debunked.’ Let’s just wait and see.” This referred to claims by scoopers CanWeGetsomeToast and Daniel Richtman that Ultraman would be Superman’s main foe in Gunn’s upcoming feature film with the eponymous hero. Gunn had seemingly debunked the rumor, clarifying that Lex Luthor is the main antagonist of hisSupermanfilm. However,Supermanset photos appeared to confirm Ultramanwas in the film. Gunn’s defenders noted that he never said Ultraman wasn’t in the film, just that he wasn’t the main villain. Richtman defended his original reporting, explaining that Ultraman is the main villain Superman “has to face,” as he reportedly never fights Lex Luthor in the film.

Batman DCU James Gunn Threads 2

While Gunn recognizes that some false rumors stem from information that sources believe to be true, he seemingly has no time for blatant misinformation. When he debunked theMr. Freeze Batman spinoff rumor, he acknowledged that rumors may be fun for fans, but he advised them not to trust information unless it comes from him or DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran. Still, the rumors will likely continue to flow until official casting is announced, so fans have been cautioned.
