Quick Links
Windblownis a very fast-paced roguelite game by thesame team behind the popular gameDead Cells. The game features an incredible range of Weapons, Trinkets, Boosts, and Gifts that will allow them to create builds as they progress through numerous randomized runs.
Newcomers may not be aware of some of the things they could be doing to make things go smoother or help them improve faster. Here is a range of helpful tips that could help beginners have a much better start and find even moreenjoyment from the game.
Fight Defensively
Players will want to prioritize staying alive over dealing damage, as this willhelp them progress further into runsand bring back more for upgrading. Upgrading will allow players to find new ways of playing the game to extend their enjoyment, but it will also significantly improve how well players can perform during runs.
Players will want to be dashing out of danger as their primary focus while encountering enemies, then dealing damage at every window of opportunity. Playing too recklessly to try get one extra hit in can cause players to lose large chunks of health, and find themselves in a lot of trouble when crossing paths with a new kind of enemy that can seal their fate.
Look For Secrets
Findingloot in roguelike and roguelite gamesis a very rewarding experience, and there are plenty of secret areas that players can stumble upon inWindblown. These areas will offer players plenty of benefits to improve the success rate of runs. Each run will be different, so players should get in the habit of dashing towards corners of maps that do not follow the obvious path.
Sometimes, players will drop off the edge of a trail they can follow that obscures the player’s view of hidden loot — waterfalls are a key example of this. Whenever a player sees a waterfall, they should attempt to dash through it to see what might lie on the other side. Players can try dash around corners to also access hidden areas.
It is worth noting that some secret areas can contain strong enemies and gauntlets that may need to be overcome in order to obtain the valuables they hide.
Upgrade Between Runs
Players will collect many different kinds of currency materials as they progress. These can unlock all manner of upgrades for players. Instead of saving up this currency, players should get into the habit of spending it between each run to unlock new aspects of the game. This allows them to discover new ways of playing that they previously did not have access to.
Such as unlocking the ability to deal increased damage when hitting enemies from behind. This is not something they have at the start of the game, and players will always have the option to dash through an enemy with a long windup and start striking them in the back for more damage — even when they are not playing as some form of assassin archetype.
There are some upgrades that are just better than others, as well as ones that will be used more frequently. This includes upgrading Health Flasks and an upgrade that willgive them a new weaponat the start of all future runs.
Synergize Gameplay
Windblownis not asminimalist as some roguelitesout there, with players putting together complex builds as they play. Each of these builds will come together from numerous parts as they make their way through different runs. Players are not always able to tell what they will get, but it is important to cobble together something that synergizes to maximize success. Players will find weapons and boosts that may favor ranged combat and increase ranged damage, but at other times they may find plenty of Critical Hit synergy.
This is why players should buy upgrades early to have a very wide range of playstyles and mastery over all the game has to offer. Players will also have access to two weapons, and having these weapons be vastly different means they have 2 options to build synergy towards. Having one close range melee weapon and one long range option means players will more likely be able to put together optimal builds mid-run.
Weapons can synergize as well, thanks to Alterattack. Alterattack will let players perform an incredibly finishing attack at the end of a combo, and is determined by what their second weapon choice is. While this may cause players to want weapons that synergize well for these Alterattacks, focusing instead on synergy for the build as a whole should be their priority.
Dashing Doesn’t Break Combos
Some players may read certain weapons as needing to complete combos, but this is not the case. A weapon that tells you that you need to use a 3-hit combo for the 3rd hit to be a critical can still get this bonus even if you dash out of the way before executing it. This means you can perform two slashes, see the enemy is about to attack, and then dash behind the enemy to quickly chain in your guaranteed critical.
Players will have their Fishing Knife once they return to the Ark, and can test this out on the training dummy. This can help players get their timing right to keep their combos going after performing a dash.
Gifts to Prioritize
Allthe best roguelite gamesutilize passive buffs in some way, and there are a lot of different Gifts in the Windblown that do just that, each adding various passive effects to players — with some gifts just making all the difference. Players will always want to take gifts that will increase their survivability over other types. Such as gaining health from killing enemies and having a second chance after death. You will have a limited amount of health recovery in each run, so being able to top up your health as much as possible means you may save your flasks for intense combat situations.
Players will also find Boosts in the game, which work similarly to Gifts. Boosts will give players small boosts to their stats, such as Damage, Critical Hit Damage, Health, and so forth. Gifts are much more substantial and can change the very nature of how a player will perform in the game. Players can only have a limited number of Gifts, so it is important to know which one you plan to give up if you are about to buy one from a vendor during a run.
