The survival horror genrehas branched out into a multitude of areas, becoming known for its attention to atmosphere and tone throughout many subgenres and subversions to typical tropes. This is a genre that is perfect for those who want adrenaline-pumping action or a slower-paced, more insidious style of horror. Part of the reason thatNo More Room In Hell 2is such a good game is that it manages to combine both of these styles of gameplay into a single title.
Zombies are a staple among survival horror games and other genres beyond it, such as FPS titlesor even roguelikes, butNo More Room In Hell 2puts an incredibly novel spin on this trope with compelling objective-based gameplay that keeps things dynamic, and puts a lot more pressure on the players than simply surviving. This game might be in early access at the moment, but there are already plenty of things for players to try and remember as they work together.
6Named Locations Have Quality Loot
There Are Risks And Rewards Within Named Locations
Named locations inNo More Room In Hell 2often have high quality gear hidden within safes and caches - they are endemic to this objective-focused style of gameplay where the zombies are the main hindrance coming against a group that needs to get several places back online again.
Most of these named locations will be hiding their loot behind a location specific puzzle, such asrewiring a junction box. Grabbing the loot in here as promptly as possible will benefit players as they head towards the next main objective.
5Assign Teammates Roles
Organization Beats Organized Chaos
Once players have met up with one another and formed a group, moving from locations and objectives can be made much easier by assigning players roles. These don’t need to be permanent positions within the party, but rather at any one time, if someone’s doing a puzzle, they have lookouts. If someone is taking the lead, someone is taking the rear.
Giving each player a focused task to do prevents zombie attacks from turning into frenzies of bullets and blood and panic, and this can greatly improve the longevity of each character (which is important - this game has permadeath!).
4Group Up Veterans With Newbies
Like a lotof co-op survival games,No More Room In Hell 2works best in a larger group. However, there may come a time when this group needs to split up to cover more ground. In the one map currently available, there’s only one main objective, but various supplementary ones that must first be completed all over the place, each with named locations between them.
Covering ground effectively and with minimal deaths means putting those who have more experience with the first game or zombie shooters in general into groups with those who are newer to this kind of game.
3Prioritize Extraction
Let Nothing Stop You From Getting To The Helicopter
Once the main objective is complete, the next and last thing is toget to the extraction helicopterand get out of the area, fast. Players carry over any xp to the next game, so it can be tempting to finish off a few zombies on the way back.
Best practise is to not do this, as the zombies will be incredibly aggressive at this point, and if players are downed, they might doom the whole team, or lose all their experience.
2First Thing Is Friends
Find Your Comrades Before Moving On
Finding the people closest to you is the most important thing early on in this game. Checking out named locations is a good way to potentially find more allies, and rushing straight for objectives without people to provide cover is a surefire way to be overwhelmed by the horde.
Getting the other people together as one team is vital for this co-op experience, and it’s important that players are looking for their allies as the first thing when deploying back to the area. Finding out ahigher level playeris also part of your team is an incredibly relieving aspect of this game.
1Classes Are Important - But Not Essential
Don’t Stress If Your Class Isn’t Perfect
There are a multitude of classes available even in the early access state ofNo More Room In Hell 2, with each class currently having one ability that changes the way they move and function as part of a team. For example, the Detective has increased headshot damage, while the Nurse can heal themselves and others faster, making them a great pick with players of any skill level.
Players will get to choose three from this pool of 26 classes whenever starting a new character. It can be easy to hope for a certain class, and be disappointed with the results, but every class has its use, and each can be further augmented with abilities. Learn to experiment with abilities and classes, and try to gain familiarity with as many classes as feasible.
