One new weapon is in the assault rifle category, and as such, players should be aware of how it compares to the existing assault rifles so they can be sure they are using the best rifles for the task at hand.

The Goblin MK2is a late unlock in the Assault Rifle category, positioned as the penultimate unlock, requiring Level 46. It is a semi-automatic rifle, meaning it cannot be fired fully automatically and must be tap-fired. It has a high damage output and a low base magazine capacity.
The Goblin MK2 suffers greatly from its semi-automatic nature and low magazine capacity. It is incredibly slow to fire, requiring the late unlock of the rapid-fire attachment to keep up with the other weapons in the class. Despite the higher comparative damage, the low fire rate means that its damage per second is low and players will often find themselves consistently outgunned. This factor, coupled with the low base magazine capacity, ensures that the Goblin is steadily outperformed compared to other assault rifles.

The GPR 91 is a fully automatic rifle unlockedrelatively early on in the leveling track, given the low experience required per level up until level 30. It is fully automatic with an average fire rate, damage, and ammo capacity.
Fundamentally, the GPR 91, while not terrible, is ultimately outclassed by the other assault rifles in the game. Its damage is on the lower end of the scale, without the fire rate to make up for it. It also has substantial damage drop-off at range and handles poorly. By the time the GPR 91 is unlocked, players will have unlocked far better assault rifles and other weapons, meaning it has little place in the current environment.

The AS Val is a fast-firing assault rifle that excels in shorter-range engagements. It has a low 20-round magazine capacity and features its famous integrated suppressor, meaning players cannot select a muzzle attachment. The AS Val is the last gun players unlock along the leveling track, requiring Level 55.
TheAS Val can be equipped to perform well, although given its incredibly late unlock coupled with the prestige system, players will have to remain un-prestiged or use an unlock token if they want to use the AS Val enough to level it up. Without a solid build, the AS Val is hampered by its low capacity and inability to engage consistently at range. This means it is ultimately a disappointing and under-powered base unlock, despite it being the last unlockable item in the game.

TheBlack Ops 6AK-47 is a perfectly passable and standard assault rifle. It is outclassed by other weapons, but has substantial damage andcan be built to perform exceedingly well. While its base unlock is weaker than others, the AK-47 is a solid rifle that gets better the more attachments players unlock. It can hold its own in combat but is simply outshone by other rifles in the weapon class.

The Model Lis a late unlock, requiring Level 40 and featuring an interesting lineup of stats. It is slow firing but has respectable damage and plenty of accuracy, along with a solid base magazine capacity.
The Model L is the more accurate and slower rifle of theBlack Ops 6lineup. It won’t consistently compete with other rifles up close, but it is accurate and damaging. Its slower fire rate ensures it is controllable at range, allowing players to output a consistent amount of damage regardless of the engagement range. While it isn’t the best rifle, it is powerful when players ensure to play to its strengths.

The Krig C is a later addition to the game, released alongside a new SMG with the Season One update. It requires players to complete the entirety of Page 6 on the Season One battle pass, but it is free of charge and does not require the purchase of the premium battle pass. It does not require any player levels outside of this.
The Krig C boasts solid stats, performing most closely to the Model L in regards to its slower fire rate and higher damage. Despite this similarity, the Krig C only has one damage point less than the Model L, but makes up for it with 150rpm more in fire rate. This means, that while it does sacrifice some damage at range, the Krig C has incredibly powerful damage per second, placing it as one of the best assault rifles inBlack Ops 6, especially when built for long range and accuracy to make up for its shortcomings.

The Ames 85 is an early unlock inBlack Ops 6and offers a well-rounded assault rifle. It has a standard magazine capacity, with a solid fire rate and decent damage output. It is unlocked at Level 19 and thus benefits from being able to level it up early on.
The Ames 85 is an incredibly well-rounded and versatile weapon. It is statistically solid, offering great stats and good handling. When coupled with good attachments, it is an incredibly effective rifle at all engagement ranges, allowing players to take fights up close or at a distance. Players will find themselves comfortably excelling with the Ames 85 as it steadily gets better the more attachments are unlocked.

The XM4 is likely one of the best guns inBlack Ops 6as a whole, offering incredible versatility with solid base stats that can bebuilt upon in various ways. Players can equip the weapon for a short-range rush playstyle, long-range engagement, and anything in between. It is also a base unlock and thus can be worked on early. Overall, the XM4 is an incredible weapon and deserves the spot as the best Assault Rifle, entirely due to its versatile nature and solid base.
