The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomdoes not have a huge number of dungeons in it. They are more plentiful and traditional than otherrecentZeldagames, namelyBreath of the WildandTears of the Kingdom. Players will need to do the usual from solving puzzles to finding a boss key for the final door.
Some of these dungeons are fun in design and some will have players pulling their hair out. For the main ones inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, let’s rank them all out. To fully get into all of these dungeons, there will be spoilers.
8Null’s Body
The Final Dungeon’s Lost Potential
Null’s Body is the final dungeon in the game, and it’s a rather short one, even including the Still World intro. It should have been an instant hit because Link and Zelda get to work together. There are a few combat rooms along with a couple of rooms that see the duo work together to solve puzzles.
Then there’s a split in the dungeon, taking away that reunion that fans have been dreaming about for ages. The final boss, Null, is a bit more involved, but it too is not that challenging. It’s more like a battle of stamina over strength. It’s a shame this game’s final dungeon didn’t end with a bang.
7Hyrule Castle
A Tough Stealth Battle Through Darkness
Hyrule Castle will be visited twice inEchoes of Wisdom. The first time will see Zelda escape her doppelgänger father and the second time will be more serious. It will be swallowed by a rift, giving players more access. The big gimmick of this dungeon revolves around stealth, and it can make players wildly uneasy.
If certain dark guards touch Zelda, she will be sucked into a void. There are checkpoints in these areas, but sometimes they can put players in such a bad position that it might be better to revert to an old save. It’s more frustrating than fun as the stealth options do not rival the greats likeMetal Gear Solid. That says, the boss fight withGanon at the endis pretty solid.
6Faron Temple
A Whole Lots Of Spiders
Faron Temple is confusing in its design. Players will go in and out of the temple itself and back into the Still World to locate a litany of entrances. It’s the most nonlinear dungeon in the game which, again, can be confusing even with a map, although that may appeal to certain players.
It should also be mentioned in this section thatstealth is heavily involvedin the pre-dungeon setup in Deku prison, which was more aggravating than Hyrule Castle. Still, removed from that experience, the Faron Temple is not without charm, as players can feel like Spider-Man with all the webslinger they will do, from climbing around to fighting enemies like the dungeon’s boss, Gohma.
5Suthorn Ruins
TheSuthorn Ruins will be the first full dungeon players will tackle inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. After a brief visit to a rift, they will come to a fairly standard design revolving around old stonework and cave systems. It’s the perfect dungeon to make players more acquainted with the Echo system.
There’s not a big gimmick around the dungeon, but players should have fun climbing on rocks, building bridges from beds, or climbing up spiderwebs. The boss at the end, Seismic Talus, is rather easy and perhaps a bit uninspired thanks to its generic rock golem design, but overall, the Suthorn Ruins is a great way to get players ready for more.
4Gerudo Sanctum
Sifting Through Sandy Puzzles
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’sGerudo Sanctumdungeon is not much different than Suthorn Ruins aesthetically; however, the puzzles are more clever as they revolve around sand and some statue placement. Some areas have to be drained of sand before moving on.
While not unheard of in a Zelda game, it’s a cool gimmick in the dungeon, and old-school fans should dig it. That’s because some of the outside designs of the Gerudo Sanctum are reminiscent of the Desert Palace fromThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The boss for this one is challenging, Mogryph, who is a mole that can grow wings and create waves of sand to damage players.
3Eldin Temple
Gliding Through A Fiery Abyss
Eldin Temple is a rough one if players go into it unprepared. Some kind of Fire-Proof drink would be a good idea inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomlike Golden Chilly Smoothie, to prevent lava damage, as there is a lot inside this volcano-based dungeon. It can be tricky once players reach the boss room too, as Volvagia is full of that hot red goo. The puzzles have a surprising twist to them.
Players will either place giant rocks in lava to bridge past seas of fire or they will have to call out a flying monster Echo to glide past plumes of smoke. It’s unexpected and doesn’t quite fit the theme of a volcano-based dungeon, but it was interesting all the same.
2Lanayru Temple
A Chilling Hike And A Double Dose Of Bosses
Climbing up Hebra Mountain is a challenge to get to Lanayru Temple as players have to craft plenty of warming smoothies. Once inside Lanayru Temple, they don’t have to worry about freezing as much unless they jump into pools of water. The gimmick for this one is rather cool or hot depending on the situation. There are rooms with giant fans and placing a fire crystal in their node will melt a room’s ice; conversely, placing an ice crystal will freeze everything over.
The hot and cold aspect comes into play with the first boss, who has no name. Players will have to freeze this slime squid, attack it, and then do that several times over as it constantly splits. It’s a bit trickier than the main boss, Skorchill. From the two bosses to dealing with ice on a constant level, players may have trouble with Lanayru Temple, but the innovations help it stand out.
1Jabul Ruins
Simple In Design And Execution
TheJabul Ruins dungeon is straightforward and yet compelling inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Players will come into this giant room with a big drain and a fountain in the middle. The goal is to get the fountain to shoot higher so that players can reach the next level. On each landing, there are two doors.
Solving the puzzle behind each door will open up a new water gate, thus building the stream of the fountain. With the addition of the new water cube, which can be learned in the rift before this, players can come up with some fun and inventive solutions to the puzzles. Also, this dungeon has two bosses and they are some of the hardest in the game, Lord Jabu-Jabu and Vocavor, which makes Jabul Ruins so compelling as a dungeon overall.
