Metaphor: ReFantaziocan easily be compared toPersonain many ways since it was developed by Studio Zero within Atlus. However, the game goes out of its way to ensure players that they are going into something completely new but with familiar gameplay mechanics.

One of these familiar mechanics is spells which are equipped to Persona-like entities tied to classes called Archetypes. Instead of coming up with new names for spells,Metaphor: ReFantaziojust reuses them to help fans understand their functions better. Not all spells are 1:1 recreations butPersonafans will definitely know recognize some like Dei that heals, which is like Dia. So, for the early hours, let’s go through some useful spells.

5Elemental Spells

Learn How To Wield Blizz, Bot, Cyc, Hama, Kande, and Mudo

Like thePersonaseries, players can strike the weaknesses of monsters easily if they diversify their party with elemental attacks inMetaphor: ReFantazio. For example, the Mage Archetyoe can teach characters the Blizz, Bot, and Kande spells. Blizz is ice-based, Bot is fire-based, and Kande is electric-based. Cyc is a wind spell attached to the Seeker Archetype which is the starting class forMetaphor: ReFantazio’sprotagonist, Will. The Seeker also has a stronger version called Cyclo to blow the competition away.

Then there is the Healer Archetype which can not only restore HP characters but inflict damage via the light-based attack, Hama. The counterbalance to Hama is the darkness spell, Mudo, which is part of the Thief Archetype. It will take a bit for players to get this one as it belongs to Heismay, the fourth party member of the team. If players useSkill Inheritance on their Archetypes inMetaphor: ReFantazioor perhaps use some accessories to grant extra spells, then they can be ready for any battle situation.

4Medi

Heal The Party In Battle

The first healing spell that will become available to players is called Dei. It’s part of the Seeker Archetype, giving players a good way to heal without wasting items. However, there is a better healing spell they can acquire not long after this called Medi.

Medi can be learned through the Healer Archetype and it will recover some HP for every party member in the group. During hectic encounters, it is strategically wiser to waste one turn healing the party rather than three turns individually healing them. It mathematically makes sense which is why these types of group healing spells are so valuable inRPGs with White Mage-like classes. Medi will especailly be useful for players once they get into more boss battles or bounty hunts in the game.

3Patra

Cure Diseases In Battle

Patra is another great healing spell from the Healer Archetype. This spell can cure status effects on party members during battle. For example, a teammate may be poisoned which will deplete HP on every turn for a random amount of time. They could also be afflicted by paralysis which can randomly cause characters to not act on their turn.

There are purchasable items in the game that can cure these diseases but then there is Patra: the one-stop solution to most ailments. It doesn’t cost a lot of MP to use but there is one setback. Unfortunately, it will not be effective on the entire group like Medi but it is valuable nonetheless. It can save players money, which is called Reeve inMetaphor: ReFantazio, by not having to waste it on numerous items.

2Gold Attack

Throw Money At Targets For Non-Elemental Damage

Metaphor: ReFantazioand thePersonaseries have a lot in common. For example, non-elemental damage is referred to as Almighty damage which is to imply it derives from gods. Gold Attack is an Almighty skill and it will literally throw money at enemies for an impressive amount of damage. This isn’t the first game to use money as a weapon asYuffie, the party member fromFinal Fantasy 7, could throw change at monsters too.

Now, it is never recommended in anRPG to throw currencyaway. However, desperate times call for desperate measures. Also, if players accrue a massive amount of money, then they can spend it as they please whether it be on shops or thwarting large swathes of enemies. It should also be mentioned that this is an early skill from the Merchant Archetype.

Rob From Enemies To Find Rare Items

Steal is another common skill, spell, or what have you in an RPG usually assignedto thief-based classes. It should surprise no one then that there is a Thief Archetype inMetaphor: ReFantazio. It can literally steal items from monsters and they can be common or rare. For example, there is a process calledpurification inMetaphor: ReFantaziowherein a priest in the capital of Grand Trad can upgrade weapons.

To do this, he needs special items like Blessed Water. Blessed Water can be found in dungeons or rewarded through battle but it can also be stolen from monsters called Imitecs who are like Mimics in other RPGs. A skill like Steal can change any RPG and players may have to wait a bit to get it. Either way, this invalubale skill is worth the wait and players will want to try using Steal on every enemy or boss that comes their way.
