Age of Empires Mobileis a popular base-building mobile MMO that allows you to create your own civilization from the ground up. you may raise a massive army, recruit powerful heroes, and join alliances to become the strongest in the empire. But there are over 40 different heroes to choose as commanders.
With so many heroes to recruit but limited resources, using them on the ones that provide the greatest value should be your priority. But knowing which heroes are better than others can be quite difficult. So, to help you with that, here’s a complete tier list forAge of Empires Mobile.
This tier list consists of heroes that are currently available in Age of Empires Mobile and of rarity, Legendary and above. Moreover, it’s a subjective ranking from the author’s perspective and might change in the future with new additions or balance changes.

S-Tier Heroes
The S-tier heroes inAge of Empires Mobileare thestrongest characters that you can get your hands on. Any investment of EXP books and Skill Points into these heroes will be worth it both in the early and late game. Their base skills are also quite powerful from the get-go and become even stronger when ranked up.
Swordsmen, Cavalry
From ‘King Arthur’s Arrival’ event only.
King Arthur is theonly Mythical rarity heroinAge of Empires Mobileand for a good reason. His skills are absolutely broken, and he can deal insane amounts of damage. His commander skill,‘Glory of Knigh,‘deals high damage and also boosts his stats significantly.
Moreover, his secondary skill allows him to deal additional damage whileignoring enemy defenses. If you can get him, using him as your primary commander for aSwordsmen or Cavalry regimentis a must.
Archers, Cavalry
From the ‘Legendary Advent’ event.
Attila the Hun is an extremely strong secondary commander, especially because of his skill, ‘Annihilator,‘which allows every allied hero in the army to enter the ‘Double Attack’ state, which essentiallydoubles the DPS of your heroes. Moreover, he’s an excellent pairing unit for any Archer or Cavalry regiment because he provides additional stat boosts to those regiment types.
Archers
From ‘First Purchase Top-up’ Pack
Hua Mulan is thestrongest archer regiment commanderinAge of Empires Mobile. Her skills allow her to deal damage multiple times whenever she launches a normal attack. This, when paired with the likes of Attila, who can double normal attacks, makes atruly broken combination.
Swordsmen
From VIP Chest only.
Miyamoto Musashi is amust-have hero for any Swordsmen regimentin your army. He also has one of themost broken secondary skills, called ‘Moment of Yin.’ This skill can make another hero in your armyimmediately trigger their signature active skill. When paired with heroes like King Arthur or Tribhuwana, your army will have a monstrous DPS.
Cavalry
Hannibal is similar to Hua Mulan regardingskill setand provides almost the same effects, but it caters to the Cavalry instead of the Archers. Moreover, he can also debuff enemy heroes when triggering his secondary skills. The only downside is that there aren’t many Cavalry hero commanders to pair him with. But, you can pair him withsupporters like Justinian the Great or Ashokato get the most value.
Pikemen
Leonidas is one of the four Legendary Pikemen commanders inAge of Empires Mobileand is by far thestrongest among them. He specializes in counterattacks and has a unique active skill, ‘Firm Strike,’ whichstrengthensas you lose more units.
Sun Tzu is thestrongest strategy damage dealerinAge of Empires Mobile. His active and secondary skillstrigger the ‘Ultimate Strategist’ buff, which deals additional strategy damage whenever a skill is used in battle. This effect cascades into more damage every time his skills are triggered, makinghis damage potential unbelievably high.
From the ‘Hero Rally’ event.
Among all the archer commanders, Queen Seondeok is the only one who can deal Strategy damage while alsoinflicting strong debuffs like Silence and Burn. Her Silence debuff is extremely strong for PvP fights, which can disrupt any enemy army formation.
Tribhuwana is thestrongest support for any Swordsmen regimentand is a must-have character in the late game. Her support skill ‘Ode to Java’ is extremely broken, and canturn the tide of any battle in your favor.
This skillincreases the activation chance of the main commander’s signature skilland heals your army every four times an active skill is used. When placed alongside heroes with broken signature skills like King Arthur or even Miyamoto Musashi, you canmake your army quite overpowered.
From the ‘Heroic Expedition’ event.
Diao Chan is support type hero inAge of Empires Mobile. Unlike other heroes, she specializes as a gathering hero rather than any combat. Her entire skillset is geared towardsboosting gathering speed and efficiency, making her the best hero for collecting resources.
Not just that, her signature skill, ‘Unit Charge, ' multiplies a significant chunk of gathered resources by 1.5 times every day. This skillbasically creates resources out of thin air without any downsides.
A-Tier Heroes
The A-tier heroes inAge of Empires Mobileare great options to include in your army, and with a bit of investment, skill changes, and rank ups,they can even rival the likes of S-tier characters.
Cavalry, Swordsmen
Recruit from ‘Tavern’.
Cleopatra VIII is one of the free Legendary heroes you’re able to unlock at the beginning, but is agood support unit for most Cavalry or Swordmanarmies. She can also deal lots of Strategy damage, making her a good fit with the likes of Sun Tzu and Hannibal. She candecrease the enemy heroes’ damagesignificantly while buffing your heroes, making herideal in PvP and PvE scenarios.
Octavian is a unique attack hero who excels as a secondary commander. Unlike most other heroes, his skill setrelies on using ‘Marks.’ This is a status effect that can be inflicted whenever he uses a skill in battle. When he lands eight marks, he canincrease the DPS of your army by almost 10 percent, and this effect repeats till the battle ends. This makes him ideal for large-scale battles that take a lot of time to finish.
From ‘The Mightiest Governor’ event only.
Justinian the Great isone of the strongest healersinAge of Empires Mobile. While he might not be the best fit as a main commander, he is extremely potent as a secondary commander. Hecontinuously heals your army,which gets boosted every time another commander triggers their secondary skill.
When paired with other Cavalry commanders that trigger their skills multiple times, likeAshoka, Cleopatra or even Hannibal, you can get a strong formation that can bequite tough to beat.
Archers, Swordsmen
From ‘Battlefield Survivors’ event and Tavern.
Josephine is thefirst heroinAge of Empires Mobileand is also one of the most useful in the long term. While she might not have an absolutely broken skillset, she can be quite agood substitute untilyou get an S-tier commander.
Moreover, her medals are quite easy to acquire, which makes it easy for you to rank her up. If you can get her up to rank three or above, thenshe becomes quite usefulboth as a main commander and a secondary one, as hersecondary skill’s effect is increased by 65 percent.
From ‘Kingdom’s Hoardl’ event or purchase via Daily Special.
Based on skillset alone, Rani Durgavati is quite similar to Attila the Hun andcan trigger the ‘Double Attack’ effectwith her secondary skill. If you aren’t able to get Attila, then Rani Durgavati is your next best option.
The only factor that separates her from the S-tier is that while she can allow heroes to enter the secondary attack state, her double attackdoesn’t trigger a secondary attack for skills and is limited to normal attacks.
Pikemen, Cavalry
Ashoka, similar to Justinian, is astrong support commanderand can provide a significant edgeif paired with the right commanders. He can increase the chance of the main commander’s secondary strike skill and provide control immunity when they trigger a secondary skill. Since he’s a dual-unit type commander, you may pair him withHannibal alongside Justinian or Cleopatrato get the most value.
Recruit from Tavern
Harald III isone of the most versatile heroesyou can acquire. Not only is he a dual unit type commander, but his skills are also catered towards providing strong offensive support.
Not only do his skills deal significant damage, but he alsoincreases the damage dealt by every other commanderin the army. You can pair him with almost any Cavalry or Swordsman regiment, and he will provide good value.
Unlike most other heroes, Tokugawa Ieyasu has quite a simple skill set, but itseffectsare quite powerful.He’s similar to Justinian and is a support hero focused on recovering as many of your troops as possible while in battle. However, what sets him apart from others is that not only does he recover units, buthe also significantly decreases the skill damage taken by the army.
B-Tier Heroes
The B-tier heroes inAge of Empires Mobileare decent commanders that you canmostly use either as a substitute or with a specific lineup of commandersto get value out of them. Investing EXP books or Skill points in them isnot recommended, as these heroes are replaceable and would provide more value for any hero in the tier above.
Like most pikemen commanders inAge of Empires Mobile, Richard I has askillset that revolves around counterattackand taking more damage. His signature skill is more likely to be activated the more normal attacks he takes.
While the skillset inherently isn’t bad andcan be useful for a pikemen regiment, it’ll cost you the same amount of coins to get him as it would cost you to get other Legendary Advent characters, like Atilla.This makes him not viable.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi is a decently strong commander, and he has a good DPS as well. His signature skill deals great damage and continuously increases the damage dealt as many times it is triggered. The reason why he lacks is that he isonly viable as a main commander, has no versatility, and is outclassed by every other swordsman commander above him.
Swordsmen, Archer
From ‘Hero Rally’ event only.
Theodora is another support hero inAge of Empires Mobile, but she’s in the B-tier because her support skills are not significant. The ones above her play a crucial role in the lineup. Theodora provides astandard damage boostand aslight damage reduction of around three percent.
Archer, Swordsmen
From ‘Giant’s Roar event only.
King Derrick is aversatile unit that is decent for both PvP and Gathering. Gathering heroes are commanders whose skills increase the resource-gathering speed, and King Derrick can provide a good boost to that. But he’s not great at it either, so he’s not in a higher tier.
In combat, he inflicts the ‘Rout’ debuff with his signature skill and deals additional damage. You can use him as adecent substitute for almost any Archer or Swordsman regiment.
From ‘Kingdom’s Hoard’ event or purchase via Daily Special.
Frederick Barbarossa is adefensive powerhousewith a relatively strong skillset,ideal for pikemen regiments. He also enhances your troops when you’re losing units during combat, making him ideal for your army.
The reason why he’s in the B tier is because he islimited to pikemen units,which don’t have great commanders to support him, and thecost it’ll take you to acquire him can give you other better heroesin the tiers above.
Guan Yu is one of thehigh DPS damage dealers, but he has quite equally limited usability. Like Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he’s only viable as a main commander and is limited to Cavalry-type units. These factors significantly affect his versatility;othercommanders and cavalry heroes outclass him.
Constantine the Great is asupport-type herowho can trigger recovery effects whenever he activates his secondary strike skills. Unfortunately, the recovery you receive isoutclassed by most other healers, like Justinian.
Moreover, he only caters to Swordsman regiments, which are already filled with much stronger commanders, making himonly a temporary substitute until you get someone better.
Pikemen, Swordsmen
Julius Caesar is aturn-based attack heroinAge of Empires Mobile. His skill set isn’t anything special, nor does he provide anything unique. His viability is againlimited to being used as a main commander, which he is decent at best.
You can use him as a pikeman or maybe a swordsman regiment commander if you don’t have anyone better in the early game, butswitch him out as soon as you can.
Oda Nobunaga is an attack-type hero who, like Julius Caesar,deals turn-based damage, basically fixed damage after regular intervals. His skills are not special, nor does he provide much versatility. The best use would be topair him with the Toyotomi and Tokugawa, but even with that strong lineup, itwon’t be enough in late-game PvP battles.
Sejong the Great is a support hero used only in Cavalry armies. He can provideslight damage reductionwith his skills and has achance to recover unitswhen taking damage. His support skills are much weaker than those of other support heroes in higher tiers, and his skills cannotprovide guaranteed recovery. You can use him as asubstitute support if you don’t have a better one.
C-Tier Heroes
The C-tier heroes inAge of Empires Mobileare by far theweakest ones you can have in your army. They neither provide significant value nor are their skills worth leveling up. Any investment of EXP books or medals you make in these heroes won’t be worth it.
From ‘Legendary Advent’ event only.
Overall, Cid is an attack-type hero who canprovide decent DPS, slow down enemies, and, to some extent, prohibit them from healing. These collectively can sound quite powerful, but theydon’t provide much value in actual PvP scenarios.
Moreover, the biggest downside of Cid is that you canonly get him from the Legendary Adventevent, which has far better heroes to unlock on their roster, some of whom are in the S tier and provide much greater value.
Tariq is a support hero who also specializes in providing DPS. He can only be used in Cavalry armies and has a skill set that isbeneficial for Secondary Strike commanders that increases critical strike rate, which is only Cid, because he’s the only Cavalry commander that can benefit from Tariq’s support skill. Because of his limited support abilities, theonly lineup he’s viable in is with Cid and Bushra. This lineup isn’t very strong either, thus landing him in tier C.
Philip IV is anotherstrategy damage dealerinAge of Empires Mobile. Moreover, he can command only Swordsman regiments, which narrows down the heroes you can pair him with. Optimally, you could use him as a secondary commander for the likes of Sun Tzu, buthe would still be outclassed by Cleopatra.
Bushra is arguably the best hero in tier C. She’s adual unit type support hero that can continuously recover unitswhile boosting your heroes’ armor momentarily and also dealing a bit of Strategy damage. Her not being at a higher tier is because theextent of her support abilities is quite limited. Every support hero in the above tiers can recover and provide much more value to their commander, which Bushra doesn’t.
Recruit from Tavern and from 7-day login.
Even though being a support hero, Hammurabi is also a subpar damage dealer. His signature skill enhances the commander’s attack but is limited to only the commander’s Might damage. Because of his limited support skills, he can, at best, be used as asubstitute till you get someone like Miyamoto Musashi or Tribhuwana.
From ‘Battlefield Survivor’ event and Tavern.
Similar to Josephine, Joan of Arc isone of the first heroes you unlock for freeinAge of Empires Mobile. She’s a damage dealer with subpar DPS and heavily relies on counterattacks to be viable in combat. Moreover, her signature skill only has a 20 percent chance of counterattacking. Apart from her barely decent skills, she canonly be used in a Pikemen army,which already lacks any other good commander to lead or support on the roster.
Archer
Yi Sun-Shin is a damage-dealing hero, buthis skills are nothing special. He does not have any buffs or special effects. Rather, he inflicts himself with a debuff to trigger his signature skill, which is prone to being interrupted,so more often than not, his secondary skill won’t trigger.
Yi Seong-Gye is an attack-type herolimited to being a main commander, whichis also truefor only Cavalryunits. His commander doesn’t have anything impressive, nor does his signature skill. If you do get him, you’re able to, at best, use him in the early game, but he’ll beuseless once you reach castle level 17.

Darius the Great is a hero you can use at best for gathering. Even though you might find a use for him in early-game PvP because of his defense skill, he doesn’t fare well in the late game becausethe chance to ignore defense is limited to only him, and that too, at a 30 percent chance.
