Summary
The hit strategy gameAge of Mythology: Retoldhas had RTS fans flocking to try out the new version of the infamousAge of Empiresspin-off. The game involves players worshiping different Gods from various mythologies and gaining troops, mythical creatures, and God Powers based on which God and Minor Gods they follow throughout their aging up during a game.
WhileAge of Empires: Retoldhas a lot to get a grip onfor both beginners and veterans due to the huge number of changes from the original, there are few choices more important than which Minor Gods to follow. Dependent on the upgrades, myth units, and God powers that players want access to, the God they’ve chosen to worship may prove beneficial early and leave them in trouble late in the game.
6Oranos
The Best Atlantean For Finishing Enemies
At first glance, many of the stats Oranos gives to players inAge of Mythology: Retoldseem to be better for the early portion of games than the later stages. However, the Titan currently considered thebest multiplayer choice out of the Atlantean pantheonhas a few key advantages that make him the best Titan in the late game and one of the best Gods overall. He has access to the best choices of Minor Gods at the Mythic stage: Helios and Hekate, both of whom have major advantages that work alongside the already-present Oranos advantages to bring players great winning moves.
The unique building to Oranos, the Sky Passage, is massive during the late-game for either defending a large empire by sending units across instantly or sneaking behind enemies with a large force. Helios makes this better, as his God Power, Vortex, also allows fast unit transportation. However, with Hekate, the Tartarian Gate power can erupt in an enemy base and cause untold chaos while an army invades. Unit force as well as Oranos giving players extra line of sight to keep track of their enemies, and visibility for 25 seconds on enemy units after the player damages them, means that Oranos provides all sorts of strategic possibilities in the late-game that can be taken advantage of by crafty players.
5Ra
Gives Huge Health Buffs
Though Ra is the leader of the Egyptian God Pantheon, he isn’t necessarily the best late-game answer. However, he is a well-balanced early and late-game God that gives players a lot of potential ideas through researchable technologies. Researching with Horus, players gain huge infantry bonuses to add to Ra’s starting 15% buff to the health of many Egyptian units. Players also gain thebest Egyptian myth unit in the Avengerand the best Egyptian God Power in the Tornado.
However, in researching with Osiris, players gain the best Egyptian hero in the Son of Osiris and a second Pharaoh due to Ra, giving them the ability to hugely buff their buildings through empowerment, making fast armies. Through Osiris, players also gain camelry buffs to add to those already given by Ra to begin with, making for devastating and incredibly fast cavalry units that can disrupt enemies all game long.
4Set
Can Create The Most Deadly Late-Game Force From A Single Unit
ManyAge Of Mythology: Retoldplayers have already uncovered the danger of playing against Set later in the game. Though he allows Priests to convert wild animals into troops early, his late-game bonuses, particularly through researching the Mythic Age under Thoth, are even deadlier. The most dangerous Egyptian unit is the War Elephant, and with Thoth, players gain the ability to make this creature even more dangerous and prevalent.
An army of upgraded war elephants can be a true game-ender inAge Of Mythology: Retoldagainst almost anything. Thoth allows players to make the elephants stronger and train them much more quickly, producing an entire destructive army in a single minute, given that the player has been able to garner enough resources to do so. Set’s ability to research with Thoth makes him a brutal Mythic Age opponent. Especially since, with Set, players have cheaper access to building more Migdol Strongholds for the training of elephants, and they can make units from these buildings cheaper if they build monuments nearby. These advantages combine to create a late-game strategy that opponents can only try to avoid by ending the game before the player gets to the Mythic Age andstarts creating their elephant army.
3Hades
Is The Best Defensive God & Brings Devastating Archers To Late-Game Play
Hades is a devious God in almost every incarnation, so it is no surprise that he has some tricks up his sleeve for his enemies in late-gameAge Of Mythology: Retoldscenarios. He is useful early, with his extra trickle of gold he constantly provides, and his shades, which have a chance to appear at player temples if they lose human soldiers in battle. But later in the game, players can research with Artemis, gaining access not only to thebest Greek myth unit, the Chimeraand the powerful Earthquake God power but also archer buffs, which Hades already gives in droves.
Both Hades and Artemis are hugely focused on archer buffs, which makes them an incredible pairing. Hades gives a natural addition to archer range and a unique archer unit, the Gastraphetoros, which is arguably the best Greek unit in the game. Artemis adds a technology that gives all archers an extra 20% attack, which makes them absolutely monstrous in defense, particularly with Hades’ bonuses for towers, and able to mow down enemy defenders when attacking. Added to the Hades bonuses for myth units, like an extra 15% health, there are easy strategies for domination under Hades.
2Zeus
Has The Best Late-Game Infantry Units & Is Easy To Learn
There are a lot of ways to gain advantages as any battle rages on inAge of Mythology: Retold. One of the most important things is obviously strong units, where somebody like Zeus, with access to a unique infantry unit, is helped greatly. Additionally, Zeus’ God power is a bolt of lightning, which can be reused for an extra favor cost to bring down powerful enemy units late in the game, and this is one of the easier Gods to get to grips with in the game.
With Zeus, hero units have additional hit points, which is invaluable later in the game, as myth units become a popular choice when players have gathered more resources, and heroes are needed to combat them effectively. Perhaps most importantly of all, infantry do much more damage to buildings, enabling strong units, like the unique-to-Zeus Myrmidon unit, to destroy larger enemy bases much more quickly. This is an invaluable method for building and using late-game armies to win vicious dogfights.
1Loki
Has Incredible Late-Game Minor Gods & Huge Myth Units Bonuses
The trickster Norse God provides all sorts of advantages that players can make use of throughout the game inAge Of Mythology: Retold. But they are particularly useful as the game progresses. For example, Loki has access to H’el at the Mythic Age, giving them the God Power of theNidhogg and access to multiple kinds of giants, making for a devastating myth unit army.
Beyond that, Loki’s Hersir hero units are able to not just generate favor to help train more myth units; they can also create myth units at randomafter generating a lot of favor. This can be incredibly useful to the player and makes Loki one of the most devastating options for late-game play inAge of Mythology: Retold.
