Summary
Throne and Libertyhas some intense PvP mechanics that can be quite disruptive for traditional MMORPG players who are not accustomed to certain particularities of Korean games. It is alsonormal for solo players to feel lostwith all the spontaneous PvP events that pop up every one or two hours. So, the following tips should help those trying to enjoy TL’s intense combats without dying in the attempt.
From stating the obvious of what players should avoid doing, to advanced combat tactics that will put rivals' strategies into the garbage bin. These PvP tips should increase one’s chances to win more combat encounters and get better rewards.
1Don’t Go Alone
Lone Wolves Die First
PvP inThrone and Libertyis a social activity, there’s no way around it.Nobody fights fair, nobody fights alone, and people who try to do this often end up overwhelmed by groups of three or more players and get “cycle stunned” until they die. These groups of experienced PvPers look for good opportunities to attract ambitious “solo wannabes,” drive them away from their packs, and ambush them horribly.
To prevent this: don’t go alone. It’s that simple, but also, quite challenging for those that want to enjoy the game to learn how to play in teams. Some events, like Contest zones, will automatically make players part of a certain group (Blue, Green, or Red) and activate an option called “Automatic Group Matchmaking.” Try to press that option, or follow contingents of players doing the Contest events, never try to do things alone. It will be the worst possible thing to do since it’s like asking to be killed.
2Use Contest And Conflict Events To Practice Teamwork
They’re Great To Make You Accustomed To Group PvP
As mentioned before, once players join a group, or in the best-case scenario,a big guild that often participates in PvP/PvE activities, they will have to learn a thing or two about cooperating in a team tag battle. Contest and Conflict events are part of the charm of the game, and they necessarily involve doing some PvP.
In the first case, these Contests (zones, events, dungeons, bosses) will pop up in the Schedule window, and alert potential participants of an event that’s undergoing in certain areas of the map. Entering that area will immediately flag players as “PvP-enabled,” which means that once they step in, the only way to get out is by killing or being killed. These are good places to learn the basics of combat through a crash course and encourage team cooperation to oust other teams that often attempt to monopolize the rewards. Conflict zones happen in open dungeons and Raid Bosses, and it’s more of the same: kill and take the boss, or be killed and lose the chance to participate in the event.
3Learn The Difference Between Fury And Wrath Attacks
It Is Essential To Survive PvP Battles
The PvP in this game has a “hidden” mechanic that players can learn by paying attention to PvE challenging fights, and that is Fury Attacks and Wrath Attacks. The purple circle that closes quickly indicates an enemy, generally speaking, an NPC, is about to unleash a Fury Attack. These can be blocked by pressing the Block Skill, a particular type of ability that comes with all weapons and allows players to dodge, block, or parry these attacks. In the case of Wrath Attacks, these cannot be blocked or parried, and need to be dodged by moving to the sides or away from their area of effect.
In PvP, there’s an extra layer of difficulty. If players pay attention to their abilitiesthey will notice some of them are described as Fury Attacks or Wrath Attacks, this means if used against other players, they can potentially block them, or not. It happens both ways, so, if players want to get good at PvP, they need to learn which skills of each type of weapon are lockable, and which are not, and use their abilities with care to make sure others don’t block them. Another important thing: Blocking mitigates damage, but Perfect Parry negates damage and stuns opponents for longer.
4Learn How To Predict
And You’ll Be Unstoppable
Speaking of learning how to use abilities, the game doesn’t teach players how to read the opponents' next move, so this is something every player needs to learn by themselves, and generally, using the Combat Arenas in every city. Practicing predict with a friendly player is the best way to get good, eventually becoming second nature.
Master every move, try different weapons, learn to block timely and parry by predicting the opponents' ability usage, and calculate cooldowns. All these abilities will come in handy, and are part of a series of skills every PvP player needs to integrate into their core gameplay if they want to triumph in the massive PvP battles that come with Territory Disputes between Guilds, for example. Another good place to practiceis the challenging Taedal’s Toweror Gate of Infinity. As players climb the Tower, they’ll naturally unlock a sixth sense of how to dodge, parry, and block.
5Eat Three Meals
Everyone Goes PvP-ing With A Full Belly
Something less than obvious in the game, since the Cooking System doesn’t quite explain it, players can get up to three buffs with food. One buff is for Attack or Defense, and these are represented by Crossed Swords or Armor Icons. Another buff type is Utility, which is depicted as an Atom icon. Lastly, there’s a Miscellaneous type of buff, and these are represented by a Pile of Coins.
Players cannot have an Armor (defense) and Swords (attack) buff active at the same time, they need to choose one. But players can have one attack, one utility, and one miscellaneous active at the same time, or a defense/utility/miscellaneous. Every player that goes into PvP eats three foods and empowers their abilities. The quality of these foods determines the duration, so eating three meals with equal qualities means that the buffs will last the same amount of time, which is also important. There are specific recipes that boost PvP Hit Chance, PvP Evasion Rate, and PvP Critical Hit Chance. These are critical since they represent the ability of the player to overcome the endurance stat of the rival players, and also the chances to land a critical hit on them.
