Summary

Wizard of Legend 2is packed full of powerful spells to master. But when the game first begins, resources are limited, and the few spells offered seem to be disappointing at first glance.

It can be a challenge figuring out what the best spells are to spend Chaos Gems on. In these cases, thebest spells inWizard of Legend 2are usually ones that players can unlock early and will make future runs much easier. If it takes time to unlock, then the spell should be fairly strong, and future runs will be made easier, allowing the player to get more Chaos Gems with less headaches. With this criteria in mind, a few spells stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Description

Slash with ice blades that cut through enemies!

Frost Blade hits fast in a wide arc in front of the player, deals a surprising amount of damage to basic enemies, and can knock foes into pits or walls with each slash. Its damage, speed, and knockback effect are what make it an amazing basic spell to have, especially for clearing out rooms. Tougher enemies can be repeatedly slammed against walls for bonus damage, and its fast strikes make it perfect for critical chance builds.

Since this spell is both a melee and water type, Frost Blade can easily become the star of any build because there’s a wide host of different artifacts that will increase its damage. Its upgrades can also help it focus on clearing rooms more safely or dealing more damage to single targets. Frost Blades also shines when it’s paired with Fueled Rage, since it will turn the player’s Wizard into a relentless blender for 4 seconds, easily stunning bosses and ripping apart dense packs of enemies.

Wizard of Legend II

Since its damage is so high for average enemies, getting increased boss damage is a must for this weapon.

Of course, it still has a few downsides. Enemies outside the water slash’s range can easily strike back, causing the player to take some chip damage if they aren’t careful. Additionally, players have to be careful with their positioning against bosses. Playing at melee range means the player gets less time to react to attacks than a ranged wizard would.

Wizard of Legend II

Shoot a fireball that explodes on impact!

Fireball is a basic arcana that’s worth every chaos crystal to unlock. It has plenty of range, its third attack is an explosive AoE, and its fire rate will keep most enemies stunned as long asthe player continues throwing fireballs.

When Fireball is unlocked, it also unlocks a quest to deal damage with it, which grants some chaos gems on completion.

Wizard of Legend II

All of these points make Fireball a great spell to unlock early. Its range will help new Wizards get a good feel for attack patterns and movement, and its upgrade paths will help get through stages with little risk. However, the biggest problem with Fireball is its low damage against bosses, which helps encourage the player to lean into their other spells for boss damage.

Exhale a cone of intense flames in front of you, burning enemies caught within its range.

Flame Breath doesn’t seem like an impressive spell at first. The spell roots the wizard in place while it’s cast, and the cone has a surprisingly short range. However, with only a 3-second cooldown, a wide damage cone, and the ability to burn enemies,Flame Breath becomes an amazing source of afflicting enemies with burn, which can translate into more damage later in the run with the right artifacts. Even without supporting artifacts, its wide AoE is amazing for damaging spawners and groups of enemies, and burn damage can easily clear wounded enemies without putting the player at risk.

Its ultimate has the player stay in place and fire a constant stream of flames in a wide cone. While it’s not incredible for bosses, it’s useful for clearing densely packed rooms and even mini-bosses in a single ultimate.

To help alleviate the problems from its sticky casting, it’s possible to dodge after using this spell or cancel its later frames into another spell. Ideally, the second spell will have some built in movement that can help the player get out of danger as soon as possible.

Deal damage and freeze enemies in a small cone in front of you.

Ice Blast is one of the best signature spells to unlock early because of how much safety it adds to room clearing, and it fits into almost every kind of build. Ranged builds will appreciate a fast, short-range burst of damage that alsofreezes enemies in place. Melee builds will enjoy a wide, cleaving attack that stops enemies from fighting back at melee range. Plus,Ice Blast itself counts as a melee attack, so any relics that affect melee spells will also affect Ice Blast.

Playrs should be aware that this spell won’t freeze bosses, but its damage goes a long way in helping reach the stun threshold against them.

Its ultimate will turn the player into an invulnerable iceberg as freezing winds blast the surrounding area. The player then explodes out of the iceberg, freezing and dealing damage to all enemies near them. While the damage behind this charged attack is a little lacking, the large AoE freeze is always appreciated for clearing rooms with even more safety.

Summon a torrent of fiery dragons!

Fans of the firstWizard of Legendwill recognize Dragon Arc and its iconic projectiles. This spell functions similarly in the sequel, but it has a few more supporting relics this time around. It counts as a dragon spell, which is relevant for Ahzi Dahaka’s Eye, a relic that can be obtained fairly early in the game and increases the damage of all dragon spells by 25%. Its fire-typing and projectiles also keeps it relevant to other artifacts that can be found in later runs.

Dragon Arc is particularly useful because it’s a long-range spell with piercing, and thanks to its passive traits, it can receive a damage boost from a wide variety of sources. A 4-second cooldown is also plenty of time to repeatedly cast this spell against smaller enemies. Against bosses, players can afford to wait the extra 2 seconds for all the charges to refresh, making this spell a wonderful way to burst bosses from any range.

Channel a short stream of Lightning

Bolt Rail is one of the best basic attacks, and it’s unlocked fairly early by choosingLightning as the starting element. Otherwise, players looking to get access to this spell will have to grind through a few runs before getting the opportunity to unlock it. This basic spell is wonderful for almost every situation it can be thrown into. It has enough range to keep the player out of melee range of most enemies, its channel can be interrupted by a dodge for emergencies, and its final attack blasts enemies away, which can give some much-needed breathing room in certain situations.

Since this attack also hits multiple times in quick succession, it’s perfect for relics that apply status effects on each hit and buffs that increase critical hit chance. While it could use a little more range with its attack, learning how to tag enemies with just the tip of the lightning bolt will make the Bolt Rail a surprisingly safe spell to use against most enemies.

7 seconds

Hurl a lightning spear that makes the target airborne. It inflicts shock damage around the landing point.

Lightning Spear offers plenty of utilityand can be upgraded in several different directions. The initial spear does a surprising amount of damage, and the knock-up and subsequent shock can temporarily put some enemies out of the fight and clear out entire groups on its own.

Its biggest downsides are how finicky aiming it can be and its 7-second cooldown. Ideally, players should pair this with another spell that has a shorter cooldown and can handle single target enemies. But when this spell is off cooldown, it can easily melt entire groups with little effort. Its best targets are spawners and enemies that want to stay in the back line and launch projectiles.

11 seconds

Enter a burning rage that speeds up basic arcana.

Bosses become much easier when the player unloads a large burst of damage against them. If the damage threshold is met, this forces the bosses into a stun state that leaves them open for more damage and can be used to interrupt difficult to dodge attacks.Fuelled Berserk is the perfect example of a spell that helps the player achieve this effect consistently.

Its buff only lasts for 4 seconds, but it increases the casting rate of basic attacks, turning them into high DPS machines. When paired with effects that increase basic attack damage and other spells that can leave damage-over-time effects or can contribute to the burst, Fuelled Berserk can easily help the player tear through any boss with their favorite basic spell.

5 seconds

Summon a dragon that speeds along a circuit before crashing down on enemies.

Dragon Circuit is one of the best signature spells in the game. On its own,it fires a dragon that strikesin a shape similar to an infinite sign before homing onto the nearest enemy and crashing into them, shocking them in place. While its base form is useful for controlling mobs, the charged ultimate form of this spell is what makes it a must-have for some builds.

In its fully charged form, Dragon Circuit will consume both charges and launch multiple dragons in every direction that move in a circuit around the player before raining down several lightning bolts onto all enemies nearby. When used like this,Dragon Circuit is more than capable of clearing entire rooms with a single push of a button. Against bosses, this spell can also create a fairly large burst of damage and help build up a stun window.

Summon 5 rotating air dragons around the wizard that block projectiles and damage enemies. Double casting the ability will shoot a dragon that slows the target.

The best standard spell for making runs more forgiving, Dragon Defense is perfect for every kind of build because of its ability to block projectiles and hit often enough to consistently flinch enemies close to the player. As a result, it’s a one-spell answer for everything. Melee builds will want this for more close-up damage, and long-range builds will appreciate this spell to dominate any projectile wars.

Its 4-second cooldown is not only short, butits timer starts the moment the spell is cast, allowing players to constantly keep this anti-projectile barrier up. This also encourages players to recast it for its projectiles, but if the player has other spells to use and doesn’t need the additional slowing effect, keeping the barrier around for longer is the best way to use this spell. The only downside to Dragon Defense is that players will have to grind through a few runs in order to unlock it.
