Summary

Throne and Libertyhas a lot of options available for those who want toplay a tank. In this role, of the most important factors for a player will be selecting which weapons they areactively switching between. The weapon that can turn any pairing into a tank style character is theSword and Shieldweapon type, but pairing the right weapons leads to builds that can outperform others.

Different tank builds inThrone and Libertycan play vastly differently from each other. There are back row healer tanks, DPS hybrid tanks, and the classic melee tanks that charge into the fray ahead of their allies. Here are some of the best options for players who want to take on this role in battle.

Sentinel throne and Liberty

Updated on February 2nd, 2025 by Chad Thesen:As an MMO continues down its lifecycle, new elements may be added to a game. For Throne and Liberty, this can come in the form of new stats such as Fortitude, but also in the form of new weapons — such as the Spear. The Spear weapon has introduced several new builds to the game, two of which are great Tank options. These are the Steelheart from using the Sword & Shield weapon, as well as the Gladiator from using the Greatsword. Other options include pairing the Sword & Shield with the Staff for the Disciples, or pairing the Sword & Shield with the Daggers to get a Berserker.

9Sentinel

Greatsword + Staff

Starting things off on this list of the bestThrone and Libertytank builds is the Sentinel. This build is great at outlasting enemies while dealing out high amounts of damage as a hybrid DPS/Tank. This is also one of the few builds that will make use of three ofthe game’s stats. It is a great option for new players because it is an easy class to play, but it doesn’t come online early. Players will need to put in the time before they will see it pay off.

As a Sentinel, players can charge in and wreak havoc in bursts of melee damage while taking a beating in the process, making it ideal for playerswanting to get into PvP. While this build has a lot of good aspects going for it, it does not perform as well as others. This makes it a great class that players can learn the game with, and then decide what build to make next.

Warden Throne and Liberty

8Warden

Sword and Shield + Longbow

When it comes to the best weapons for a tank inThrone and Liberty,Sword and Shield is arguably the most importantone to include. The Longbow is a great option for making a self-sustaining class, thanks to its ability to gain mana and heal itself at will. This combination makes the Warden an outstanding tank that can survive plenty of encounters that would cause others to fall.

This is an easy class to pick up and learn, as well as being easy to use in the later parts of the game. This build does not have a lot of mobility, meaning positioning will be very important, but it can still take a hit well. It can also use healing on itself and allies to keep everyone healthy and fighting.

Raider Throne and Liberty

7Raider

Sword and Shield + Crossbow

Raider is a great choice for players looking to level up and play through the PvE portions of the game. This is also a build thatdoes well in both large-scale GvG game modesand small-scale PvP ones. This build plays with an artillery mentality, by raining down damage from set positions. The Raider does not have much mobility, so gamers will want to play it with their camera zoomed all the way out.

Once in place, players will barrage their targets with high amounts of damage while shrugging off enemies striking back at them from a distance. Players will want to get a solid feel for this style of gameplay, which is not hard to master, so they can be effective no matter the game mode they find themselves in.

Templar Throne and Liberty

6Templar

Sword and Shield + Wand and Tome

The Templar is the tankiest support build in the game, and will let players ensure that both they and their allies have the highest survivability possible. Players will have plenty of crowd control available to assist their frontliners, along with healing to keep said frontliners standing between the player and their enemies. This class has very poor damage, so it’s not a good idea to put them into the fight directly, and rather stick to being the group’s support.

Area of effect and ranged damage that comes this build’s way will not hinder it thanks to tanky it is, along with its self-healing. However, repositioning will not be easy when too much damage comes raining down, so always be repositioning to the ideal spot. Templars are a great option for new players and their friendswhen clearing dungeons.

Steelheart Throne and Liberty Wand and Tome Build-2

5Steelheart

Spear + Sword and Shield

Combining the Sword and Shield with the Spear creates a build that may rival even the Crusader. This build is capable of great damage output while retaining massive defensive stats. This makes it one of the best choices for tank players. Both the Crusader and the Steelheart excel at crowd control, and are great for keeping enemies occupied on the frontline of battle.

This build is easy to pick up and play, but players will need to put in time and effort for later parts of the game. Players wanting something that is easier to run for endgame activities will want to stick with running a crusader. Crusaders have a far less demanding skill rotation. This can lead them to being far more reliable in both PvE and PvP endgame. Players will need Perception as one of their Primary stats for this build, while the Crusader can afford to sideline this stat.

Berserker Throne and Liberty Wand and Tome Build-2

4Berserker

Sword & Shield + Daggers

The Sword & Shield will bring a lot of survivability to the table, which will be the main focus for running a tank. However,Daggers grant this build amazing mobilityto get where it needs to be when allies need it the most. It is also a low grade DPS thanks to how much critical hit damage it brings.

Players can still get by by focusing on just Strength and Dexterity as their primary focuses. However, Perception will raise the likelihood of hits. For a build that focuses on critical hits as its bread and butter, this is not something players will want to overlook to achieve the best damage numbers possible.

Disciple Throne and Liberty Wand and Tome Build-2

3Disciple

Sword & Shield + Staff

Magic-based classes have a reputation of being harder to run than non-magic-based ones. However, pairing the Sword & Shieldwith the Staffwill give players a tank that is easy to get the hang of and to master. However, while this may be one of the easiest Tanks to play, it doesn’t offer much versatility.

It handles the role of a tank well, but players might not have as much fun as running other builds. It suffers in the mobility department, meaning their allies will suffer from bad placement. Dipping into Wisdom can help with cooldown times, but players will not struggle pushing it aside to focus primarily on Dexterity and Strength first. Should they find themselves wishing for shorter cooldowns, they can dip into Wisdom, but they should not invest too much in the early development of this build.

Gladiator Throne and Liberty Wand and Tome Build-2

2Gladiator

Greatsword + Spear

The Gladiator seems to be the middle point between a Tank and a DPS, so much so that it can juggle between filling these roles. Nothing will beat a dedicated Tank, and some might feel the Gladiator does not meet their needs.

However, players that want something that can rush in to save their allies and crush enemies point-blank will want to try this build out. Gladiators have massive damage output to match their high movement, are easy to play, and the Greatsword pairing gives them a boost to survivability.

Crusader Throne and Liberty

1Crusader

Sword and Shield + Greatsword

Crusaders are the king of tanks inThrone and Liberty. No other build holds a candle to these juggernauts. They can effectively close the gap on their targets and keep them where they want them with their crowd control abilities. Thanks to havingaccess to Greatswords, they make for a strong melee build that can rack up high damage numbers against their foes.

Crusaders don’t have a lot of mana regen, nor do they have short cooldowns. However, this actually helps make them easier to play. They need tocommit to their skill rotation. Flawlessly executing it against a target can allow them to reliably mow through any ofThrone and Liberty’sgame modes.
