Indiana Jones and the Great Circleis the next big release from Bethesda Softworks and MachineGames, the Swedish developer behindWolfenstein: The New OrderandWolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. The game, which takes place between the events ofRaiders of the Lost ArkandIndiana Jones and the Last Crusade, chronicles the escapades of the titular protagonist as he travels around the globe to uncover the secret behind an artifact that was stolen from the Vatican.Indiana Jones and the Great Circlefeatures a multitude of real-world locations as playable levels, including Thailand, Egypt, the Himalayas, and Shanghai. Unlike previous video game adaptations of Lucasfilm’s iconic movie franchise, this upcoming Bethesda title adopts a primarily first-person gameplay perspective rather than a third-person one, similar to MachineGames' previous works.
One other noteworthy aspect ofIndiana Jones and the Great Circleis that it features Harrison Ford’s likeness. In the game,Indiana Jones is portrayed by Troy Baker, the esteemed voice actor best known for his leading roles in titles likeFar Cry 4,Tales of Vesperia, andThe Last of Us. Indy’s character model and physical appearance, on the other hand, is based off of a young Harrison Ford. While it’s great that Bethesda and MachineGames were able to secure the likeness of the award-winning actor,Indiana Jones and the Great Circleshouldn’t be the only upcoming game to feature him. Indeed, Lucasfilm and Disney should try to make aStar Warsgame centered entirely around Han Solo, the character Ford portrays in the hit franchise.
With Indiana Jones Fast Approaching, It’s About Time Lucasfilm Gives Fans a Han Solo Game as Well
Han Solo is One of Harrison Ford’s Defining Roles
Before Harrison Ford cemented his status as a cultural icon with his portrayal of Indiana Jones inRaiders of the Lost Ark, the actor first rose to fame with his role as the smuggler-turned-rebel-hero Han Solo in the 1977 movieStar Wars. Thanks in no small part to Ford’s excellent performance,Han Solo quickly became one of the most iconic charactersin theStar Warsuniverse, second only to Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia. After the success of the firstSWmovie, Harrison Ford portrayed Han Solo again in four subsequent films, includingThe Empire Strikes Back,Return of the Jedi, andThe Force Awakens.
Han Solo’s Been Featured in Many Titles, But a Game Centered Around Him Has Yet to Be Made
Han Solo has also shown up in countless video games throughout the years. One of the first appearances he ever made in the medium was in the 1992run-and-gun platformerSuper Star Wars, where he had a minor role as a temporarily playable character. More recently, Solo has been featured in titles likeLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2,Kinect Star Wars,Disney Infinity 3.0, and 2017’sStar Wars: Battlefront 2.
Strangely, though, in the 40+ years thatStar Warsvideo gameshave existed, there hasn’t been a single noteworthy title that’s starred Han Solo as the primary protagonist. One would think, given the immense popularity of the character, that some developer would’ve made a AAA Han Solo game by now, but apparently not. That’s why, if a new, high-quality video game based on the gun-toting rebel is ever created, it would be a dream come true, especially if it were to follow a certain convention from Indy’s upcoming outing.
A Han Solo FPS Similar to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Could Be a Perfect Fit
LikeIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, it may be a good idea for a hypothetical Han Solo game to employ a first-person perspective. That way, it can distinguish itself from recent third-personSWtitles likeStar Wars OutlawsandJedi: Survivor. Given the lack ofStar Warsfirst-person shooterson the market as of late, a single-player Han Solo title in the vein ofSW: Dark ForcesorSW:Republic Commandohas the potential to stand out among its peers. And frankly, if MachineGames is able to nailIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, then perhaps it may be the best fit for aStar WarsFPS starring Harrison Ford’s beloved character.
