Summary

AZelda: Ocarina of Timemodder has combinedPikminwith the game with a surprising level of detail put into it. A gameplay video demonstrates what Link’s newfound Pikmin can do, which turn out to be surprisingly helpful inOcarina of Time.

WhilePikminisn’t as well-known asZeldain the west, both have become well-loved Nintendo titles over the years. Normally,Pikmingames followcharacters like Olimar, who gather Pikmin to help assist them on their mission or journey. The small plant-like creatures can accomplish a wide variety of tasks and can readily be replaced if lost or killed, making them valuable assistants. It seems that helpful nature extends past thePikmingames, courtesy of this modder.

Ocarina of Timemodder notChase has shared a brief video demonstrating what it would be like if Pikmin were in the game. The video starts with Link leaving Castle Town and immediately pulling Pikmin out of the ground, just like one would in aPikmingame. From there, the video shifts between different scenarios, including Link running through Hyrule Field with a veritable army of Pikmin. Linkuses the Pikminto attack monsters, pick up things out of reach, move and carry objects, and even fix the bridge leading to Gerudo Valley.

While the aforementioned details are impressive enough on their own, notChase took the Pikmins' colors and types into consideration, as well. For example, Red Pikmin can be seen surviving in the hottest parts ofDeath Mountainwhile all the others perish from the heat, and in another shot, most Pikmin drown in water, but Blue Pikmin get through just fine. Link can also organize his Pikmin on-command, where the color-coordinated group can be seen marching along behind him.

Unfortunately, while this mod looks like it would be a lot of fun to tinker with, it’s not available to the public. NotChase has created numerousZeldamods that have intrigued fans, but it seems like they’re more like personal experiments for the creator. Sadly, it may be for the best, as Nintendo is notorious for its litigious nature, and has forced numerous mods and fan games to shut down over the years. Releasing a mod combining two different Nintendo games could definitely draw the company’s ire. For the foreseeable future, fans who want to see Link interacting with Pikmin will have to settle for playingSuper Smash Bros. For those who just want the inherent crossovers inOcarina of Time, there’s always theMarioEaster eggs or thehiddenStarfoxdevelopment tool.
