While theCall of Dutyfranchise has always been known for its high-stakes multiplayer, the series has also had its fair share of gripping war stories to tell. For years, players have been taken on exciting adventures filled with intriguing characters and fast-paced action set pieces. However, with the release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3last year, that seemingly changed, so it’s reassuring thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 6seems to be rectifying that.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3was hardly the first entry in the franchise to have a lackluster story, but the way the studio chose to go about its gameplay also left much to be desired. With the release ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6, players are once again experiencing some of the top-tier singleplayer action that the series has to offer. And afterModern Warfare 3let many people down, this memorable experience is releasing not a moment too soon.
Black Ops 6 Feels Like a Much Needed Breath of Fresh Air
Modern Warfare 3 Letdown a Lot of Players
The originalModern Warfaretrilogyfeatures some of the best games that theCall of Dutyseries has to offer. So, many thought that the rebooted trilogy would offer a similar type of experience. The first one certainly did, and the second one followed it up with a pretty decent story, albeit not as strong as some wanted. All eyes were then on the third game to see if it could deliver, especially with it offering the debut of Makarov, but sadly, it ended up falling flat with players.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3received massive criticismfor the way that its story was handled. The campaign ran around four hours long, with many feeling like those hours were dull and uninteresting. Additionally, a few character choices and fates left players scratching their heads. The actual missions lacked substance, as many of them felt like mediocre sandboxes rather than offering the hard-hitting set pieces players had come to expect. All of that amounted to an experience that many players turned their backs on, and some even consider it the worst campaign in the series.
Black Ops 6 Has Seemingly Righted the Call of Duty Ship
After the reception ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, many players were hoping thatBlack Ops 6would fix things, and so far, it seemingly has. The multiplayer andround-based Zombies modehave been fantastic returns to form, but the real highlight is in the game’s campaign. While it has borrowed a couple elements fromModern Warfare 3, this story feels like classicCall of Dutyin the best way, and it has come at the perfect time.
Players are once again being brought on a high-stakes adventure filled with espionage, betrayal, memorable characters, and all the shootouts they could ever want. Not only does the campaign build upon this iconic subseries in interesting new ways, as the fresh mechanics are a joy to mess around with, but the length of the story is more than double that ofModern Warfare 3. Because of these strengths, as well as some top-notch rewards that can be used in other modes, fans are seemingly flocking to the campaign, leavingthe days ofModern Warfare 3behind them.
Of course, there have been no major signs thatCall of Dutyis on its way out, as seen with therecord-breaking numbers of 2022’sModern Warfare 2. That being said,Modern Warfare 3definitely put a stain on the franchise for some, as they were looking for something different from the title. Luckily,Black Ops 6seems to be just whatCall of Dutyfans want, especially in regard to its singleplayer campaign.
