Quincies inBleachare the polar opposite of the Shinigami. Despite the two of them being important spiritual beings required to keep the balance between all three realms, Quincy have the ability to completely wipe out Hollows from existence. This ability may be useful in some situations, but 200 years ago, when the Quincy began to overhunt Hollows, it tipped the balance between the realms. This led to the Shinigami-Quincy War inBleach,which resulted in most of the Quincy being eliminated to keep the peace.
Yhwach was known to be the ‘Father of the Quincies’ as his blood runs through their veins. He was special among his species because he only had the ability toshare his power with others. He eventually found a more potent method of sharing his soul and that was done by engraving lettersdirectly onto their souls. This ability was calledSchriftandonly Yhwach’s Sternritter’searned the glory of obtaining a letter. Each Sternritter’s Schrift was comparable to a Shinigami Captain and they were Yhwach’s elite force built to destroy the Soul Society. 27Letter “Q” - Question
Existence Objection: Makes Users Question Their Existence
Berenice Gabrielli’s Schrift is pretty self-explanatory as it targets its opponents by objecting to all their actions, including their very existence. We don’t get to see much of itin action as Kenpachi Zaraki managesto immediately counteract Berenice’s ability, but it seems the Schrift exists to purely make the opponent question their own ability.
It can be speculated that it’s more of a mentally inducing Schrift in comparison to a combat-centered one. This does indeed have its downsides, because the ability is rendered useless if the opponent cannot hear or Berenice loses the ability to speak.
26Letter “N”
Unknown Ability
The second on this list with a Schrift that Bleach fans, to this day, still have no clue what it represents, is Robert Accutrone’s letter ‘N’. So far, all that can be speculated is that he has an uncanny ability to manipulate his opponents' blind spots and teleport to locations within the blink of an eye.
Since his Schrift is pretty much unknown, not much can be theorized about Accutrone’s ability. Not much can either be said on whether his firearms are part of his Schrift or simply a weapon he uses out of ease. However, when he is in his Vollständig form, he adorns wings and is equipped with various accessories made of Reishi. From this it can be speculated his Schrift is related to marksmanship.
25Letter “K”
Similar to the previous Schrift, BG9’s ability is not well known amongst the series. It can only be speculated that his Schrift has some relation to information/data compiling. As an enemy, BG9 looks quite mechanical in nature and it has a very analytical approach to its fights.
It uses its battles as an opportunity to gather data on its opponents, and often goes to drastic measures to make sure it gets the answers it needs. It’s quite ‘inhumane’ in that sense and feels no remorse, since all it cares about is obtaining the necessary information required.
24Letter “Ϛ” - Stigma
Survivability: Has Ultimate Healing Properties
Shaz Domino was originallya creation of Gremmy Thoumeaux’s Schrift ability. Gremmy created him and bestowed him with the power of a Sternritter, but Shaz grew more sentient by the day and managed to escape Gremmy. This was only possible with his present Schrift (Viability), which gave him the ability to replace every part of his imaginary body with real parts made of Reishi.
Doing so allowed him to completely sever ties from Gremmy’s control and go his own way. Yhwach soon realized this and decided to then bestow upon him the Greek letter Ϛ- which has been speculated to represent his ability to heal himself and survive any fatal injury inflicted upon him. Shaz can heal at quite an alarming rate and not much has been revealed in the Bleach manga, so if readers want to know more about him, they can always refer to theBeginning of the Revive of TomorrowLight novel for more information on Shaz.
23Letter “R” - Roar
Sonic Scream: Releases Devastating Soundwaves
Jerome Guizbatta’s Schrift ability is dubbed by the letter “R” and is quite an animalistic trait. Jerome’s Roar allows him to transform into a gigantic, feral-like ape which can amplify the sound of his roars and produce strong sonic shockwaves. These shockwaves can easily blow the heads off or mutilate any lower level Shinigamis.
Unfortunately, his ability doesn’t really work on high level Shinigami, as Kenpachi Zaraki was somewhat immune to the sonic roar. The ability is quite simple but sadly not suited for the long-run in a combat situation.
22Letter “O” - Overkill
Killing-Induced Empowerment: Goes On A Killing Spree To Get Stronger
Overkill is a simple Schrift ability where Driscoll grows stronger with each thing he kills and this doesn’t necessarily constitute an enemy or an ally, but beats as well. With each kill he grows in size and strength, making it quite difficult to stop his rampage once it starts.
When Driscoll enables his Schrift, he basically massacres everything he sees in his path, and so, if he obtains the power of 100 men he has killed, he will be 100 times stronger than his opponent.
21Letter “J” - Jail
Reishi Prison: Traps Opponents In Unbreakable Prisons
Quilge Opie has a peculiar Schrift that enables him to trap his opponents in a prison. This is quite fitting for his authoritative personality as he prefers to subjugate his opponents in his Reishi prisons.
Quilge can use the ability in such a way, that once his opponent is trapped inside, anyone outside the cage cannot detect the opponent’s Reiatsu (Spiritual Pressure) or hear them. The prisoncompletelycuts the prisoner off from the outside world and leaves them trapped. The only way of escaping the prison is if Quilge is defeated from the outside.
20Letter “I” - Iron
Iron Skin Mimicry: Has Skin That’s Tough And Unbreakable
Iron Mimicry is a pretty simple ability which allows Cang Du to create a skin of iron on his body. It’s a very defensive ability which can stop any blade that has made contact with his skin. He can cover his skin partially or fully, depending on the situation.
Cang Du’sSchrift is pretty versatile,as seen when he converted his frozen arms into iron when Hitsugaya Toshiro tried to subdue him. It’s considered to be the number one defensive skill among all the other Sternritters.
19Letter “Y” - Yourself
Appearance, Power, And Personality Mimicry: Perfect Replication
The twins Royd Lloyd and Loyd Lloyd have similar Schrifts that dabble in the art of mimicry. Loyd can replicate the appearance and power of a person, whilst Royd can replicate their appearance and memory. Each of their abilities are extremely unique to their fellow Sternritter and quite versatile in battle.
However, Royd’s ability is a tad bit more superior than his brother’s, since he was seen flawlessly mimicking Yhwach’s abilities during his fight with Captain Yamamoto. By tapping into their memories, he’s able to make better use of their signature abilities and this ‘copying’ skill carries him quite far into the fight.
18Letter “G” - Glutton
Consumption: Stretches Her Mouth To Consume Anything
Liltotto Lamperd has the ability to elongate her mouth into a jagged set of teeth, which consumes anything in its path. Her Schrift ability is titled ‘glutton’ in the literal sense, as there is nothing she cannot eat.
What’s interesting about this Schrift is that, though it is quite morbid, she also gains additional strength from everything she consumes. Unfortunately, though the ability is quite handy in its own way, it leaves Liltotto in a constant state of hunger.
