“Relive The Past 20 Years”

VIZ Media’s Official Instagram Has Been Building Up to This

On Instagram, VIZ Media’s official account had been building up to an announcement regardingBLEACH, one which was likely going to coincide with the 07:30am PT premiere time of the first episode of Part 3 of theThousand-Year Blood Wararc. When it was revealed, the caption read “Celebrate two decades ofBLEACHby reliving some of your favourite anime moments”, with the PV showcasing various significant scenes from the beginning to the end of the original anime, from Ichigo’s first transformation as a Shinigami and his first set of adventures with Rukia in the Substitute Shinigami arc; to his bouts against Kenpachi and Byakuya in the Soul Society arc; to Rukia’s traumatic past concerning the death of Kaien Shiba and the days leading up to her execution; to Ichigo’s rampage in Vasto Lorde form against Ulquiorra and his incredible face-off against an evolved Aizen Sōsuke, powered by the Hōgyoku. The visuals are impeccable, and give fans a taste of what it could be like to witnessBLEACHin the highly pioneering, jaw-droppingly beautiful glory of its current iteration,BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War.

Does This Mean The Remake Is Coming?

No Official Confirmation That This Is Anything More Than a PV, But There’s Some Possible Evidence

While this looks like it could be an announcement that there is aBLEACHremake on the cards, the sources in question have not said so in so many words. Some fans might be under the impression that this PV is a statement of intent, and there are, of course, a few things that justify someone seeing it as such. For one, the auspiciousness of a 20th anniversary, and the overwhelming successes of the current arc make for a dream-like situation for anyBLEACHfan lamenting the way the original turned out; but there’s also the long credit list, presumably of individuals and entities involved in the production of the PV. An element of this credit list that seems interesting to note is that the animation production is by “Pierrot Films”, rather than just Studio Pierrot.

This is an offshoot production company rebranded as Pierrot Films in July this year, and its only credits are the currently-airingThousand-Year Blood War Part 3and the upcoming fourth season ofMr. Osomatsu. Some of the staff involved include chief animation directors Yukio Hasegawa and Kiyoshi Komatsubara; animation director Cindy H. Yamauchi; planning, storyboard, episode director and editor Takumi Ichikawa; director Tomohisa Taguchi, as well as cooperation from Shōnen Jump, with Shueisha, TV Tokyo, Dentsu and Pierrot as producers. It would be incredible to get a remake ofBLEACHfrom the beginning, but at this time, there is no word of such plans.
