Summary

Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will air onPrime Videochannel, Freevee, in March 2025, and it’ll be the final outing for Harry Bosch and co, to the huge disappointment of many fans. Titus Welliver will play the ex LAPD detective turned private investigator in a recurring role in the Ballard spin-off series, but it’s unclear what will happen to the rest of the characters. One of those characters is Bosch’s tech whizz fan favorite,Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi, who is loosely based on a real private investigator called Mohammed Najar, who works as a consultant on the show.

Without the resources of the LAPD at his disposal,Harry Boschrelies on Mo Bassi’s skills to assist with his many investigations in the private sector. However,Mo’s tech know-how inBosch: Legacywouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of Mohammed Najar, who provided invaluable real life information in his consulting role on the show.Bosch: Legacymakes a point of making sure everything in the show is realistic to the finest detail, and Najar is a big part of that when it comes to Harry Bosch’s private investigation team.

Mohammed Najaris a fascinating real-life character who has extensive experience across the law enforcement spectrum. He served in the United States Marine Corps prior to becoming a Deputy Sheriff with Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Najar has also worked as a Special Agent with the California Department of Justice, Special Agent Supervisor with the California Department of Justice, a Fraud Investigator and a sergeant with the California Department of Insurance.

Najar is based in Los Angeles and currently works as a private investigator and offers a range of different services, including background checks, tracing missing persons, investigating computer crimes, as well as protecting certain celebrities. It was Najar’s work in the private sector which brought him to the attention of the creative team behindBosch: Legacy. When work began on the spin-off show, it was necessary to get an insight into how the private sector actually works, with Harry Bosch getting set up as PI. Najar was the perfect person to provide this information, and he signed on as a consultant on the show.Najar’s particular set of skills led toMaurice ‘Mo’ Bassibeing loosely based on him, and he was a key part in providing an accurate depiction of all the tech wizardry that appears in the show.Najar was asked in aninterview with the ‘Everybody Counts’ podcast, about the similarities between him and Mo Bassi:

I think he tends to solve problems. All of these problems are solved through some technology. As a private investigator, I do a lot of social engineering. We are asked to do penetration tests and that’s one portion of it. We all have problems or issues and obstacles and I try to resolve those things by the use of technology. I think Mo in the show does something similar.

• Cross-functional team management and development

• Crisis management

• Technology solutions

• Strategic planning

• Executive protection

Mohammed Najar Has Assisted In Providing Authenticity To A Lot Of Mo Bassi’s Tech Schemes

Harry Bosch is an old school detective, so he needed help with the tech side of things when he set up as a private investigator inBosch: Legacyand this is where the character of Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi came into the equation. The jazz-loving sidekick fixes things using his technological skills, and he’s been involved in some of the most exciting set pieces. However, these well thought out scenes wouldn’t be possible without Mohammed Najar’s knowledge and expertise, in order to make them look and feel as realistic as possible.

Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi Key Facts

In the same interview with the ‘Everybody Counts’ podcast,Najar elaborated on the consultancy he provided on theBosch: Legacyseason 2scene involving Mo Bassi breaking into a pharmacy company.

I showed them what we use. We have these covert cameras, we have tools, electronic surveillance stuff. We talked about that. The whole pharmacy thing, when it came up, they were asking me how you would breach into a secured building? We had this long discussion about how I, as a PI, would be able to do it.

It’s fascinating to see the lengths the creative team onBosch: Legacywill go to in order to get things as close to reality as possible. The pharmacy break-in is one of the coolest sequences in the history of Bosch-verse, and it makes it all the more impressive that it was accurate to how it would’ve played out in real life. Mohammed Najar is the real life Mo Bassi in many ways, and theBoschspin-offis lucky to have him on board as a consultant.
