Capcom has announced that physical editions of threeResident EvilPlayStation 5 ports -Resident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3, andResident Evil 7: Biohazard- will be released this winter. Brought to the PS5 throughout 2022, theseResident Evilports saw some large improvements on Sony’s flagship console.
Following the release of the games on current consoles in the summer of 2022, players who had snaggedResident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3, orResident Evil 7: Biohazardon PlayStation 4 or Xbox One were able to upgrade to the game’s PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S versions at no additional cost. In April,physical copies of theResident EvilPS5 portswere briefly spotted on a Romanian website with a July release window. While the date turned out to be misleading, Capcom has confirmed that physical editions of these popular survival horror titles are on the way in the coming months.
Physical copies ofResident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3, and the Gold Edition ofResident Evil 7: Biohazardwill be released on December 6 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. Those in Japan can purchase the games on December 26, while a North American release is scheduled for some time in January 2025. While Capcom hasn’t listed an exact date, retailers likeGameStopcurrently list January 10 as the release date. Each of thepopularResident Eviltitleswill retail for $29.99.
Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 PlayStation 5 Physical Edition Release Date
The PlayStation 5 versions of all three games include ray tracing, higher frame rates, 3D audio, faster loading times, and PS5 DualSense controller support for haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The Gold Edition ofResident Evil 7: Biohazardwill likely stand out to fans of the 2017 title, as it comes bundled with both volumes of the Banned Footage DLC, as well as the End of Zoe epilogue episode. Additionally, thecritically acclaimed remake ofResident Evil 2is a game many series fans have hoped to add to their shelves, as some have dubbed it one of the best horror games of the last decade.
While no official announcements have been made just yet, many fans believe thataResident Evil 9reveal is coming soon, with a recent Metacritic page stirring speculation. Many are hoping for a reveal at the 2024 Game Awards in December, as the last main title in the franchise,Resident Evil Village, was released way back in 2021. If the next title is still a ways off, fans may still have something to look forward to, as aResident Evil Code: Veronicaremake is rumored to be in development.
