Summary
ACall of Duty: Black Ops 6player has found the layout of a classic map fromCall of Duty: World at Warhidden away in Skyline, one of the game’s 16 original launch maps. Having just launched last week, players and critics are raving aboutCall of Duty: Black Ops 6. All three modes of the game are receiving massive praise, most notably its Zombies mode, which returns to the series' classic round-based format. Some have also been callingBlack Ops 6’s single player campaign one of the best inCall of Duty’s long history.
It can be argued thatCall of Duty: World at Warmarked a turning point for Treyarch, which, prior to releasing the 2008 World War 2 FPS, got its bigCall of Dutydebut with the franchise’s third overall installment, released in 2006. In many ways,World at Warput Treyarch on the map as a mainCall of Dutystudio, and served as the precursor to what would become the studio’sbelovedBlack Opssubseries.Black Opsis largely considered to be the most popularCall of Dutyseries, especially when taking into account the last twoModern Warfaretitles, which weren’t as positively received.
Just a couple of days after the release ofBlack Ops 6, one player found evidence that a particularWorld at Warmap could be making its return. On Twitter, M3RKMUS1C posted a short clip of them exploring the areas aroundBlack Ops 6’s Skyline mapand stumbling upon a layout that looks strikingly similar toWorld at War’s Japan-set Courtyard map. Since the area isn’t fully rendered, the textures of the area are muddy, but one can easily make out Courtyard’s defining structural features.
World at War’s Courtyard Map Found in Black Ops 6’s Skyline
The fact that this Courtyard area is attached toBlack Ops 6’s Skyline map makes it seem highly probable that both maps will be baked into the highly leaked and rumoredCall of Duty: Warzonemap unofficially known as Avalon.Black Ops 6players have been making similar findingsexploring the outskirts of some of the game’s other multiplayer maps, and the running theory is that all these areas will be part of Avalon, which is thought to be coming toWarzonesometime in 2025.
It was rumored that, much like what last year’sModern Warfare 3did withModern Warfare 2’s (2009) maps,Black Ops 6would add a number ofBlack Ops 2maps post launch. Perhaps M3RKMUS1C’s discovery is evidence that Treyarch is also planning to get some moreWorld at Warmaps involved, which would be interesting considering the 2008 title isn’t part of theBlack Opsseries.
AsCall of Dutyplayers are enjoyingBlack Ops 6’s launch, Treyarch is undoubtedly preparing to unveil everything that’s coming as part of Season 1, which is expected to begin in early December. If Courtyard really is part of Avalon in 2025, fans shouldn’t expect the map to become available inBlack Ops 6multiplayeruntil the newWarzonemap releases.
