Summary
Concordshouldn’t be available anywhere right now, but one gamer recently discovered physical copies of the disgraced live-service shooter listed at full price in their local electronics store. Sony rescindedConcordentirely from the market and took the game offline just two weeks after launch, which means these full-priced physical copies are quite literally unplayable at the moment.
As one of the biggest commercial flops in PlayStation’s 30-year history,Concorddebuted to less than 700 players on Steam and was estimated to have sold around 25,000 copies in the two weeks it survived on the market. Given the rumors ofConcordcosting $400 million to develop, this was a disastrous turnout.Concordwas promptly pulled offline and its diminutive player base was refunded, and developer Firewalk Games has since gone dark on future updates, with no indication of whether the embattled hero shooter will return.
Sony quicklyvanquishedConcordfrom players' digital libraries, but recalling physical copies is seemingly not that easy, as evidenced by a recent post in the Gaming subreddit from user krisskriss02. As it turns out, their local electronics store didn’t get the memo for theConcordrecall and is still selling physical copies at the game’s $40 launch price, with the final value rounding out toapproximately $41.6after taxes. The user added that the store had five of theseConcordcopies in stock, and that they couldn’t ask anyone about them.
Concord Discs Still Being Available in Some Stores May Be Good News for Collectors
It’s definitely a breach of ethics if the store is aware ofConcord’s mass shutdown and is still selling the physical copies. Their value as games is currently zero and any unfortunate soul who unwittingly picks up a physical copy ofConcordis essentially paying for a hollow plastic box. Conversely, this could be a handy find for collectors who want to snag aConcorddisc in case the game never returns and is deemed “lost media.” Bigger retail chains likeTarget have mostly cleared out theirConcordstock, so smaller electronics stores are likely the only saving grace for these dedicated collectors.
Concord’s future is extremely uncertain, but there’s a tiny sliver of hope for the hero shooter’s small but ardent fanbase. Recentupdates toConcord’s Steam backend may hint at a comebackfor the game, possibly in a free-to-play capacity and with a reworked monetization system. However, only time will tell whether these changes can overturnConcord’s image in the eyes of gamers.
