At the center of theDanMachiseries is Orario, a Labyrinth City housing a dungeon. With its iconic dungeon, Orario serves as a central hub for various adventurers and gods alike who gather to explore the various mysteries the city has to offer. When adventurers gather, enemies, allies, and acquaintances are sure to form, but more than that, a power struggle, socially and economically, would arise.

With Orario, the vast resources from its dungeon make it a unique place, not just to seek adventure but immeasurable wealth. Many know the dungeon as a focal point of Orario, but it’s far from being the only noteworthy attraction. From its many intricacies to its origins and structure, many things remain to be exploredabout Orario in theDanMachiseries.

Orario

The Origins And Structure Of Orario

The Labyrinth City

The Labyrinth City of Orario was built around the dungeon as a way for adventurers to easily access resources before and after an expedition. With thecuriosity surrounding the dungeon, over time gods came down to live among the mortals and establish familias, giving adventurers powers and abilities to better explore the dungeon. From then on, the City of Orario was naturally built.

Historically, Ouranos is said to have contributed greatly to the establishment of the Labyrinth City. Named after the primordial Greek god of the Sky who fathered the Titans. Ouranos was one of the first gods that descended from heaven and the first one to grant Falna to humans, making the city one where heroes were made.

At the heart of Orario lies the dungeon, both physically and symbolically. The whole City of Orario is one big circle that’s divided into eight sections, with the dungeon right at the center. In the eight sections are a plethora of districts, markets, residential areas, and attractions that have drawn individuals from all over, even without including the dungeon. Because of its unique setting, Orario also has various defense mechanisms and walls that protect its inhabitants from monsters, both external and those that could escape from the dungeon.

The Dungeon Beneath Orario

A City Built On Adventure

Humans have always loved the prospect of gaining wealth and glory regardless of the perceived risk. This singular factor has made Orario’s main attraction the dungeon, which lies right at the center, beneath the Tower of Babel. With how it creates monsters and repairs itself, the dungeon is considered a structure that’s alive. For many, the dungeon is a place of equal opportunity and risk. After all, despite the many dangers and monsters in it, it attracted the gods from heaven and still attracts adventures all over the world today. This shows just how much the spirit of adventure forms the foundation of Orario. With 71 known floors, the dungeon is truly massive and said to stretch even deeper. Each floor is progressively larger and creates progressively stronger creatures. However, some floors are known as safe points in which monsters do not spawn. Outside these safe points, other areas in which monsters do not spawn often havehidden villages that house the Xenos. A race of intelligent monsters believing themselves to be the children of the dungeon.

While the main reason is unknown but unsurprising, the dungeon hates gods and rejects them whenever they enter it. If gods get critically injured while in the dungeon, they simply get absorbed, rather than getting sent back to heaven. Of the 71 known floors of the dungeon, several areas are known to haveunique elements that define them. However, perhaps because of its status of being “alive,” the dungeon seems to continually change, with various terrains and monsters evolving.

The reason the dungeon hates the gods in theDanMachiseries has not been fully explored; however, gods and monsters can be considered life forms from different planes. Moreover, the gods and the dungeon seem to have an agreement that prevents the gods from using their arcanum in the mortal world, while the dungeon has a promise to uphold till a certain time.

Guilds And Familias

The Powerhouses Of The Labyrinth City

As seen with various fantasy shows, managing adventurers is no small task, particularly when they’re gathered from various parts of the world. Fights would need to be stopped and prevented, rewards would need to be given for tasks completed, and the progress of an adventurer would need to be tracked. Doing all these things is an adventurer’s guild andvarious familia endorsed by the gods. While they operate differently, guilds and familias are what ensure that order is maintained in the City of Orario despite the gathering of various individuals from all sorts of cultures.

The guild serves as the overarching authority over the adventurers and various familias. Regulating various activities, the guild assigns tasks to adventurers depending on their level and skills to mitigate the potential loss of an adventurer due to facing enemies way out of their league. The guild also serves as a store of information that passes on what other adventurers have learned and discovered to new ones, aiding in their navigation of the dungeon. Having unchecked adventurers pouring into the dungeon would be disastrous, and the guild serves as a force to stop that. Interestingly, underneath the guild is a room of prayer that Ouranos inhabits. There, he uses his divinity to stop the dungeon monsters from leaving it, implying that without him, the monsters could as well trample on the city and the world ofDanMachias a whole.

Hostess of Fertility

Unlike guilds, the familias serve as a close-knit of adventurers who are united under a single god or goddess. The members of the familia are endorsed and granted divine abilities by their deity. These divine abilities make their exploration of the dungeon way easier than just relying on their might as mortals. Like the gods that endorse them, not all familias are combat-focused. Some focus on tasks like crafting, healing, and even trading. If the guild is likened to a massive pillar that props up the entire city through managing its adventurers, then the familias are the pillars that support the guild.

The various familias and the guild do different things; however, together they serve as the powerhouses of the Labyrinth City. While the guild provides the framework, the familias provide the manpower to conquer the dungeon.

Orario Economy And Social Structure

Life Beyond The Dungeon

Orario’s economic structure is heavily reliant on the materials brought back from the dungeon and what is needed to conquer it. The treasures and materials contribute to a vast marketplace with popular demand. Many everyday citizens who are not combat-oriented also thrive by pursuing various things like agriculture, trade, and medicine.

Various familias not combat-orientedalso provide materials for adventurers. After all, a touch of magic would make things so much more potent. An ordinary blacksmith would be able to produce a sword to be used in a dungeon; however, high-level adventurers seek magic swords as their potency against monsters are drastically higher than normal steel. These weapons often need magical elements imbued in them, and the blessing of a god would be needed.

In this way, familias endorsed by gods such as the God of Wine or the God of Blacksmithing also have a role to play in Orario.

In terms of the city’s social structure, the strength and wit of their god and the members of their familia play a significant role. While Ouranos still lives, he rules his people but does not govern them, leaving that up to the people themselves, the guilds, and the various familias. As always, strength and influence are crucial in a society of adventurers, and the familia with the most of it often gravitates toward the top of the social hierarchy.

Landmarks Of Orario

Key Locations In The Labyrinth City

Over time, various structures and districts that have captivated adventurers and people worldwide have sprung up in the City of Orario. The dungeon is a marvel, no doubt, but so is the Tower of Babel, the Hostess of Fertility, the Entertainment District, the Amphitheatron, and many more. A gathering of familia thatare headed by gods and goddessesmeans that many structures would rise to fit the gods and goddesses ‘heavenly’ taste. The home of the Ganesha Familia is a towering Ganesha structure that serves as a sight in its own right.

Of the various attractions, The Tower of Babel stretching into the sky and being right over the dungeon makes it very eye-catching. The structure is a 50-floor tower built right over the dungeon to stop various monsters from escaping it. Various prominent gods and goddesses live atop the tower, as seen with Freya, who used to live on the top floor. Other places, like the Hostess of Fertility, a pub, are sure to have adventures trooping in to share their adventures while having a hearty laugh with others.

Conclusively, the Labyrinth City, which lies at the heart ofDanMachi, has developed into a bustling city for adventures with its own social and economic hierarchy. Including the dungeon, the city has a ton of attractions and structures. While the dungeon serves as the city’s center, literally and figuratively, the guild and familia serve as the pillars that make it a structured society that works.
