Summary
Bungie releases update 8.1.0 forDestiny 2, signaling the launch of Episode Revenant while also making major changes to activities, gear, and character abilities as well. It’s an exciting week forDestiny 2players as the game transitions from its first episode surrounding the Vex on Nessus to the second, known as Revenant.
Over the past couple months, Bungie has continued to open up regarding what players can expect to see with Episode Revenant. In terms of content, Bungie held aDestiny 2livestream to showcase the new Revenant content, including the narrative which sees the return of Scorn leader Fikrul as he attempts to use his newly found Echo to create an undead army. Onslaught Salvation is a new version of the popular Into the Light activity, adding new maps and bringing additional enemies to fight alongside updated defensive measures to utilize. Alongside all of this new content, players can finally take a look at all the gameplay and activity changes happening in Episode 2 as well.
The latest patch notes for Episode Revenant have finally arrived, diving into even more detail regarding many of the changes Bungie hinted at in previous blog posts. As expected, theCrucible now has a revised version of theDestiny 2map Solitudeavailable for Control, Quickplay, and Competitive playlists, and Bungie has even added in new UI elements that display class icons on health bars, an “Assisted by…” message on the death screen, as well as a “Tools of Destruction” icon on a teammate’s tombstone to let them know which weapon got the killing blow.
Outside of the Crucible and various bug fixes, the Episode Revenant update also makes sweeping changes to gear, bringing much needed buffs to many overlookedDestiny 2exotic armor. Items like Raiju’s Harness, Blight Ranger, Icefall Mantle, Ballidorse Wrathweavers and many more have seen adjustments, outright functionality changes, and in some cases, reworks. Weapon archetypes have also seen some balancing and the once mightyChoir of One exotic auto rifle has received a fair share of nerfsas well.
As Bungie previously noted, Episode Revenant is increasing the Power Bands by 10 points, with the Hard Cap now set at 2010.Weapon Crafting inDestiny 2has also been adjusted, making the seasonal weapons no longer available with Deepsight Activaction in order to improve the gear chase instead of players simply making the perfect roll. Reprised Garden of Salvation weapons will feature Deepsight, so players can get their fix that way at the very least. Finally, the much maligned Pathfinder system has also seen some quality of life improvements, as Bungie has split the Ritual oriented one into three versions with objectives that can be completed in any of the three activities: Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit. While adding a “freebie” objective on the first card for each week and most objectives have been rebalanced to reduce path completion time.
