Several new deep-dive articles from Bungie have recently shared a ton of new information with regard toDestiny 2’s Codename: Frontiers content, which is due to arrive next year. While there’s a lot for players to be excited about post-Final Shape, the reveal of a vastly reworked armor system set to come toDestiny 2sometime next year aims to introduce totally new benefits and mechanics to armor pieces, while also looking to make the experience of grinding for armor both more comfortable and more rewarding for players.
Recognizing that the process of obtaining and perfecting armor sets has become a ratherstale aspect ofDestiny 2, Bungie has set its sights on making armor a much more contributing factor to general gameplay. This will be done by stripping out some of the existing mechanics underlying the armor system which limits what players can do, and replacing them with a plethora of mechanics that players can use to take buildcrafting to yet another whole new level, including:
Breaking Down Everything Destiny 2’s Upcoming Armor Rework Brings To The Table
First up, Bungie will be doing away with the current “tier” mechanic that governs a stat’s effectiveness. Instead of Resilience, for example, granting extra damage resistance for every ten points invested, every single point will count going forward, meaning thatDestiny 2players won’t have to spend hours farming the perfect armor rolesto min-max their stats. This also encourages players to more freely switch their equipped armor pieces without fear of their perfect stat distribution being ruined.
Players Will Be Able to Get Even More Out of Their Favorite Stats
Additionally, each stat will be capped at 200 effective points rather than the current 100. Though theeffect of each stat inDestiny 2will continue to function mostly the same up to 100 invested points, putting more than 100 points into some stats will provide entirely new bonuses on top of the standard benefits. Though many of these concepts are still in active development, players can expect - for example - grenades and melees to occasionally gain an extra charge upon becoming available when more than 100 points are invested into discipline or strength stats.
Armor Pieces Will Start Taking Advantage of New Stats
Speaking of discipline and strength, Bungie has stated plans to rename them to “grenade” and “melee” respectively, to improve readability at a glance. While the developers have planned some of these changes with the goal ofmaking someDestiny 2stats more usefulwhile simultaneously reducing the dependence on certain others, they have shared another new armor stat with the special ammo stat. This will gradually increase the frequency of special ammo drops on kills, even granting larger special ammo bricks occasionally when the stat is invested in heavily.
Not only that, Bungie has revealed that armor pieces will also be getting unique set perks, too. These will function similarly toorigin traits on weapons inDestiny 2- for example, when wearing two pieces with the Vanguard Operative perk, throwing grenades will grant damage resistance for the player and their allies. When wearing four pieces, a second perk will be granted in addition.
Earning Armor Will Feel More Rewarding Than Ever
Finally, legendary armor pieces will now drop with Stat Archetypes, which will determine which stats roll high with any such piece of armor. Essentially, this should help armor pieces roll with more prominent stat spikes, making it easier for builds to specialize in certain stats. With legendary class items also receiving full stat distributions like regular armor pieces,Destiny 2fans can look forward to a whole new arsenal of optionsthat will enhance their builds next year.
