It has been a strange year forDestiny 2, with a delayed and very hyped The Final Shape expansion that launched to incredible success, only for Bungie to fall from grace with the mass layoffs and multiple controversies both within the game and outside it. While The Final Shape itself was considered the single best expansion in the franchise’s history by many longtime fans, it hit a sore spot with all the marketing material involving the return of Exotic class items toDestiny 2, only for them to be accessible via a heavy-comms, two-player activity. This sparked a debate about solo players and accessibility, and there has yet to be a resolution. Bungie has made a few steps in the right direction, andFestival of the Lost 2024is addressing this too - but there is a catch.
It’s not uncommon for Bungie to try and find solutions to problems that appease the community, and while this is not always feasible, Exotic class items became one of the biggest issues for the game. The problem was twofold -Destiny 2players didn’t want to rely on the multiplayer mission as the only source for their first Exotic class item, and RNG on drops was making it near-impossible to get one’s desired god roll. The second part was addressed in a few ways, but the first wasn’t - until FotL 2024.
How Destiny 2’s Halloween 2024 Event is Making Good on Two Promises at Once
Destiny 2 Giving Away Exotic Class Items During FotL is a Great Change
2024’s Festival of the Lost may arguably have timed its release date poorly as it’s just two days prior to Halloween, but it’s packed with good loot for players to find, including a new archetype of shotgun. More importantly,Festival of the Lost 2024 will allowDestiny 2players to get Exotic class itemsfrom Eva in the Tower, even if they have never completed the associated Exotic mission once.
This is a huge change for loot accessibility, and it shows that Bungie is listening to player feedback regarding some of the biggest issues with the game. Giving all players a chance to get Exotic class items withoutfarming Dual Destiny or Overthrow chestsin the Pale Heart is a great change that shouldn’t fly under Guardian’s radars, especially since they will only cost 1 Eerie Engram and 2,500 candy. Virtually anyone can farm resources for at least one Exotic class item, so it’s an amazing way to make good on the controversy from earlier this year.
Festival of the Lost’s ‘Free’ Exotic Class Items Are a Double-Edged Sword
Unfortunately, players will still need to complete the Dual Destiny Exotic mission to unlock the recently added Exotic class item attunement feature, which allows players to select a given perk in order to have higher chances of getting that perk in combination with another random one. However, for those who have Exotic class item attunement unlocked, the event is even more rewarding, as each item obtained via Eva Levante will be guaranteed to have the selected perk in the attunement screen. This makes obtaining a givenExotic class item perk combination inDestiny 2much easier than ever, even more so if players use all three classes instead of maining just one.
As such, now is the perfect time to start farming for Exotic class items, as there are plenty more good rewards from Festival of the Lost - from the event-exclusive FotL memento to the various weapons with new perk combinations. Hopefully, the current Festival of the Lost issues reported by some players are resolved and the event will be fully enjoyable for all, even amidst theDestiny 2perk weighting controversythat is making Bungie look into how the game generates perk combinations. Until then, players can enjoy “free” Exotic class items, but they will still complete Dual Destiny once for the full package.
