While this event may be a fun way to crossoverDestinywithFor Honor, Ubisoft and Bungie should strive to make aFor Honor-themed event forDestiny 2.

Destiny’s History of Crossovers Explained

OverDestiny 2’s seven-year-long history, the first-person mythic sci-fi MMO has crossed over with a multitude of other celebrated video game franchises.Destiny 2’s crossover history first began in 2022 when skins ofZavala, Ikora Rey, and the Exo Stranger were made available inFortnite, while armor sets inspired by Drift, Black Knight, and Omega were brought over to the MMO. From there, Bungie would collaborate with several other developers to bringDestiny-inspired outfits to their game and vice versa.Destiny 2has since crossed over withFall Guys,Assassin’s Creed,God of War,Horizon,Ghost of Tsushima,The Last of Us,The Witcher, andMass Effect.

Destiny 2’s crossovers weren’t limited to just video game franchises, however, as the MMO has also crossed over with film and tabletop game properties. In coordination with the release of the fifthGhostbustersfilm,Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, earlier this year,Destiny 2players were able to acquire the Slimer Ghost shell, a Garraka-inspired Exotic Sparrow, and an Ecto-1-themed ship. Later in June, Bungie and Wizards of the Coast collaborated to introduce aDungeons & Dragons-themed Spectral Displacer set for Hunters, the Owlbear Chariot Sparrow, a Natural 20 emote, and more toDestiny 2. Players were additionally able to purchase a limited Beholder Ghost shell vinyl figure from the Bungie Store.

Destiny 1did not feature any crossovers with other pop culture franchises, though it did feature Easter Eggs and subtle references to other games such as Bungie’s previous seriesHalo.

The Potential of a For Honor Crossover in Destiny 2

Since Bungie allowed Ubisoft to temporarily incorporateDestiny 2skins and other cosmetics intoFor Honor, Ubisoft should allow Bungie to do the same for the MMO. In the two video game companies’ prior crossover withAssassin’s Creedin 2022, bothDestiny 2andAssassin’s Creed Valhallaplayers could purchase character packs and armor ornament sets inspired by each game. For example, inValhalla, players could have Eivor equip a Lord Shaxx-inspired armor set and a Gjallarhorn-inspired sword. Meanwhile,Destiny 2players could have purchasedthe Eagle’s Warlock set inspired by Altaïr Ibn-La’AhadfromAssassin’s Creed 1, for instance. Based on this precedent, Ubisoft should work with Bungie to createFor Honor-themed cosmetics forDestiny 2.

For Honorhas exponentially expanded its content over its eight-year-long life, including the addition of factions the Wu Lin and the Outlanders, so Bungie and Ubisoft have a lot of options for what to incorporate inDestiny 2. Given thatDestinyfeatures three classes of Guardians andFor Honorinitially started with three factions, it’d make sense for the two companies to center the crossover on Knight, Viking, and Samurai-themed Guardians. Titans could have Knight-inspired armor, while Hunters could get Viking armor and Warlocks could get Samurai armor. Bungie and Ubisoft could further adapt some ofFor Honor’s most popular emotes intoDestiny 2, such as Disco Dance and The Bard’s Horn, but withDestiny’s neon holographic emote charm.

Lore for Destiny 2’s For Honor Crossover

The potential ofFor HonorKnight, Viking, and Samurai Guardian armor inDestiny 2could create some interesting developments forDestiny’s story. For each armor set’s description, each could tell pieces of a story of an ancient knight, viking, and samurai beingresurrected by a Ghostand creating the armor based on their previous lives. These hypothetical knight, viking, and samurai Guardians could be some of the oldest beings ever resurrected by a Ghost and open the door for more Guardians to be introduced inDestiny 2who have deep roots in Earth’s past, which would be an interesting spin on the typical crossover event.
