Summary

Destiny 2’s Revenant Episode had a huge weight on its shoulders after the community’s morale had gone down during Episode 1 after the mass layoffs at Bungie that caused a huge post-Final Shape outrage. While players were happy with Revenant content overall and the fact thatDestiny 2would not have craftable seasonal weaponsthis time around, the story itself was arguably a tad too short - though that’s what many feared would happen without weekly missions. The release of the new Vesper’s Host Dungeon was a high point for the game, with many Guardians praising Bungie over the activity’s design - especially considering a hugely popular roll on the new heavy grenade launcher.

However, this specific rollcaused an uproar when players started realizing that it was not commonly found like any other roll, and despite a weekend of farming, many individuals still couldn’t get it. This specific roll is Envious Arsenal + Bait and Switch, making the VS Chill Inhibitor an incredible pick for boss damage given it’s a rapid-frame heavy grenade launcher. After accusations that Bungie was intentionally perk-weighting loot inDestiny 2and after a fan ran a binomial test to prove that perk-weighting is likely (or at least a bug), the company stated that there is no such thing in the game. However, a follow-up theory has crept up in the community, and it makes a lot of sense.

Why Destiny 2 May Be Facing The Series' Biggest Controversy Yet

Destiny 2’s VS Chill Inhibitor God Roll Issues Explained

There may be a few contributing factors to players noticing the potential bug with the perk combos onVesper’s Host’s VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher. These include:

Issues with RNG and getting specific Dungeon orRaid drops inDestiny 2are nothing new, and this is not the first time perk-weighting was brought up by the community. Still, the end result is that a fan by the name of Spark on Twitter posted the results of a binomial test they ran. While this test had a flawed process according to Spark, it still shows that the likelihood of the Envious Arsenal + Bait and Switch combo is incredibly low. Seeing how Bungie was adamant in stating that there is no perk-weighting, another fan by the name of Vendetta went on to propose a different theory.

Destiny 2 May Not Have Perk Weighting, But Rather ‘Perk Proximity’ Issues

This theory, labeled “perk proximity theory,” posits that there may not be a perk-weighting bug (or intentional decision) in the game, but there could be a system where perks are more likely to drop in combination with a perk that’s near them on the adjacent column. This would explain why players may go multiple times with drops that have identical perks in a row, and it would also explain why Envious Arsenal + Bait and Switch is particularly rare onDestiny 2’s new metagrenade launcher, given these two perks have a column distance of 4 based on the theory.

The way this theory applies to all weapons makes it believable when checking data from websites likelight.gg, but while this may all be true, it’s also worth noting that it’s virtually impossible to not have skewed data, to being with, as players tend to dismantle rolls they don’t like due to inventory space.

The flaw with this theory is that onceDestiny 2weapons are dismantled, those rolls won’t appear in light.gg anymore, so collecting data for specific perk combos would need a manual approach. Still, it looks quite plausible that there would be a bug or issue where some perk combinations are more likely to appear, and with this theory, players can test their rolls themselves and compare the data on light.gg to see where their weapons fall. If there is indeed a problem within the game, Bungie will likely let players know. However, if this theory is true, it may be one of the biggestcontroversies inDestiny 2, considering the amount of wasted farming time on players' end.
