One of the things that drives Marvel’sWhat If…?series is that literally anything can happen. Captain Britain, the Black Panther as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, zombies taking over the Marvel universe have all happened as part of theWhat If … ?series plotlines. Now something totally new might be coming for Season 3.
That third season ofWhat If…?also happens to be its last. When the Jeffrey Wright voiced Watcher takes the audienceon new adventures for Season 3, it will be the last go-round for the animated Disney+ series. It looks like the writers will pull out all the stops for this particular series finale run.
What’s Coming In What If …? Season 3?
Fans already know that Season 3 will feature stories like a road trip with Winter Soldier and Red Guardian and a mech battle featuring a new Avengers team. However, a bit more light has been shed on what viewers can expect to see next season afterWhat If …?AndX-Men ‘97writerMatt Chauncey shared some details at the 2024 Lightbox Expo including that there is a “a 1930s screwball musical.”
Chauncey didn’t elaborate on what characters are involved in the musical episode or what the context will be. However, this particular kind of episode is hardly a totally original idea. In fact, shows that have established themselves tend to like to branch out and try these musical episodes as a way to stray away from their normal offerings. That this animated series is walking down the same path that shows likeScrubs,Buffy,Psych,Fringeand any others is certainly an interesting idea. Especially if this musical episode could be planned as part of the actual series finale. It would seem as if literally playing the show off to its end could be a nice touch.
Chauncey also didn’t stop with the announcement of a musical episode. He also dropped a few otherteases about what viewerscan expect in this final season. He also let it slip that in at least one of the episodes there will be a character that was exclusively created for the show and hasn’t even been seen in comics before now. It’s also expected that a character who has existed before but didn’t make an appearance in either Season 1 or Season 2 will finally arrive in Season 3. While it’s not clear who he was referring to, it was previously divulged that Moon Knight will make his first appearance. It’s not known if that was the character Chauncey was referring to during his presentation.
WhileWhat If …?Is getting ready to ride off into the sunset as a television program, it’s also branching out onto other platforms. Fans won’t have to wait long to see this musical episode asWhat If…?Season 3 is expected to land on Disney + sometime in 2025.
