The CCO of indie publisher Devolver Digital recently expressed excitement about the nextNintendoconsole, as well as the possibility of developing games for the new hardware. In the meantime, Devolver Digital COO Graeme Struthers recently spoke withGamereactor(as translated byNintendo Everything) during a preview event for its upcoming indie titleNeva. In addition to praising the Nintendo Switch for being more “indie-friendly” than other systems, Struthers expressed his excitement about seeing what the company has in store for its next mainline console. He says that he would like to see more Devolver Digital-published titleson Nintendo’s future hardware, but that everyone will have to wait and see what happens.
Devolver Digital CCO is Excited for Nintendo Switch 2
Even though the next Nintendo system hasn’t properly been revealed yet, there is already at least one game in development for it, courtesy of fellow indie studio Pathea Games. Its upcoming life-sim titleMy Time at Evershinewasconfirmed for the tentatively named Switch 2back in September, and it recently surpassed its Kickstarter funding goals, likely in part thanks to its status as one of the first video games being actively developed for the next Nintendo console.
Meanwhile, there have been several leaks and rumors surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2’s look and technical specifications, including possible mock-up images that don’t stray too far from thecurrent Switch’s console/handheld hybrid design. Select developers reportedly got to see a demo of the Nintendo Switch 2 in action during Gamescom 2023 last fall, and some third-party companies are said to have already received development kits for the upcoming Nintendo hardware. Everyone else might have to take Devolver Digital’s excitement toward the Switch successor console as a promising sign untilNintendofinally reveals its newest gaming system.
