Summary
There are a lot of new mechanics that have been added toDiablo 4with the first expansion,Vessel of Hatred, and the Hatred Rising season 6 content. Included amongnew and returning features like Mercenaries, The Dark Citadel raid, and the new Spiritborn class is the return of the Runes and Runewords system. When you combine a Ritual Rune and an Invocation Rune on a piece of gear with two sockets, it will create a Runeword.
The Trigger and Effect for this Runeword depends on the Ritual Rune and Invocation Rune used to create it. Pay close attention to the Offerings generated and required by these Runes, as they affect how reliably you can trigger yourDiablo 4Runeword effect. A Ritual Rune that only generates 5x offerings won’t do much to empower an Invocation Rune that requires 1000x, after all.
Updated July 01, 2025, by Abigail Angell:The official start of the Season of Witchcraft has added three new Runewords to Diablo 4 - Nagu, Igni, and Chac. It also includes balance changes for 15 of the Runewords launched with Vessel of Hatred. These balancing changes and new content, while expected after the addition of such an impactful mechanic, change the meta substantially in Season 7.
