Summary
Whether it’s a Z-Fighter, an android, or an alien from another planet in the universe, the characters ofDragon Ball Zcome with their own unique powers and strengths that separate them into categories ranging from the absolute strongest to those who offer support. Characters who choose to use their powers for evil have many motivations, from global domination to total destruction, while those who use the power for good attempt to stop them from achieving their goals. Some have overpowering moves, such asGoku’s Kamehamehaand Vegeta’s Final Flash, but others have a full arsenal of moves to keep their opponents on their toes.
Such is the case for Cell, the main antagonist ofDragonBall Z’s Android Saga. First arriving on Earth as Imperfect Cell, a ridiculously-powered creature, Cell had enough power in his body to wipe out entire cities with the blink of an eye, and a tail that could absorb anything it penetrated. To make matters worse, Cell had two other forms — Second Form Cell and Perfect Cell. As an android himself, Cell also had access to the attacks of many heroes and villains from the past, such as Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza, and King Cold. One such move was the Big Bang Crash, an attack eerily similar to that of the Prince of Saiyans.
Story Arc
Perfect Cell Saga
After absorbing Android 17,Semi-Perfect Cell became exponentially strongerthan the previous Imperfect Form. Ditching the hissing lisp and meager appearance, Semi-Perfect Cell had a taller and more muscular build, and revealed some new attacks that devastated anyone that got in his way. Big Bang Crash is a move similar to Vegeta’s Big Bang Attack, only the Crash variant comes in an orange glow and packs more explosive power behind it. Semi-Perfect Cell is able to destroy small islands with just one shot of this attack, and his imposing presence makes the attack feel more intimidating than previous villains.
Though Semi-Perfect Cell seldom uses Big Bang Crash, the move feels appropriate for his character and personality. Coming off as an intimidating presence with a slight flair for the dramatics, nothing is more enticing to this type of personality than to watch a large, surrounding area explode in a glow of orange with one simple gesture of the hand. Though he doesn’t use it much for attacking opponents, the mere sight of Semi-Perfect Cell’s power while using Big Bang Crash is sure to leave a chill down the spine of any fighter.
How the Big Bang Crash is Performed
Much likeVegeta’s Big Bang Attack, Semi-Perfect Cell elevates himself high above the ground to create distance between himself and the target. Extending out one of his hands, Semi-Perfect Cell disposes a large amount of ki into the palm of his hand, creating an orange sphere of energy with destructive force. Semi-Perfect Cell launches the Big Bang Attack at the intended target, which has been known to destroy anything in its path, turning whatever it touches into ashes.
Notable Uses Of The Big Bang Crash
Second Form Cell’s Surprise Attack
After absorbing Android 17 and becoming Semi-Perfect Cell, the next goal in mind was to absorb Android 18 to becomePerfect Cell. Unfortunately for him, Android 16 and 18 caught onto his plan and made their escape, hiding on a small island and out of the sight of Semi-Perfect Cell. Through desperation, Semi-Perfect Cell began ushering threats to the two hidden androids, promising to blow up every small island in the surrounding area to bring them out. When his threats fell upon deaf ears, Semi-Perfect Cell launched a Big Bang Crash at an empty island, wiping it from existence.
After wiping out a few more of the tropical islands, Semi-Perfect Cell aimed his direction towards the island that Androids 16 and 18 were on, and would have blown it away had it not been for the timely arrival ofVegeta and Trunks. Despite them stopping Semi-Perfect Cell from eviscerating Androids 16 and 18, the damage in the surrounding area had already been done, as several tropical islands had turned to dust.
You fool! Have you forgotten? I know you! Your cells are woven into my very being! You, Vegeta, are a part of me!
During the battle between Semi-Perfect Cell and Vegeta, the green villain came up with several different methods of using the Big Bang Crash, whether it was by reducing the power to fire off frequent shots in quick succession, or using his mouth to fire off an unpredictable blast of energy. With Cell’s DNA made up of favorable traits from Saiyans and villains alike, there were no limits to what he could do and the power he harnessed. Despite not achieving his Perfect Form immediately, Semi-Perfect Cell was still stronger than any other villain the team had faced up until that time.
By the timeSemi-Perfect Cell evolved into Perfect Cell, the Big Bang Crash was replaced by the more-powerful Kamehameha. to become a stronger and more capable fighter, Perfect Cell adapted to the fighting style of anyone that dared face him, learning their techniques in the process, and using them against them in battle. When Perfect Cell was reduced back to his Semi-Perfect Form, he reduced himself to a human bomb, blowing himself up to take out as many people as he could in the process.
