Summary
The power scaling of theDragon Ballseries continues to reach further limits as the franchise progresses. What started as a show that primarily dealt with Martial Arts has transformed into a beloved property that has some of the most powerful characters, abilities, and transformations across all of fiction. The main characters have trained to the point where they can now utilize the energy of multiversal beings.
Through this evolution, the protagonists ofDragon Ball Super, Goku and Vegeta, have unlocked unique Divine Transformations that are used bythe Angels and Gods of Destructionrespectively. However, even though they’re far stronger than they have ever been before, fans have long been wondering how their new abilities would react to fusion or just how powerful this subsequent fusion will be, so let’s break down the power they may possess.
Gogeta’s First Appearance
Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn
With Goku using the technique of the Angels in Ultra Instinct and Vegeta using that of the Destroyer Gods with his Ultra Ego, the two Saiyans are now among the most powerful characters across the entire multiverse. Despite thetechniques being antithetical to one anotherand having completely different abilities, both Goku and Vegeta could unite these abilities by fusing into one, incredibly powerful warrior.
Judging by how Vegito and Gogeta are virtually the same in sheer strength and only really differ in terms of personality and fighting style, they could honestly choose either one to fuse into. However, Gogeta would be the more logical choice here. This is because if the resulting fusion has too much power or energy for the Potara Earrings to handle, it can cause the defusion of the character back into his constituents. This is what happened in Vegito Blue’s fight against Merged Zamasu, where the former defused way before he should have due to his incredible power.
In any dire situation, the Potara Earrings would be the best way to transform due to how quick and easy the fusion process is,especially when compared to the Metamoran Dance. However, as was seen inDragon Ball Super: Broly, the latter method allowed Gogeta to remain fused until the timer ran out despite his overwhelming strength, so it goes to show that Gogeta would likely be the better choice to house such an incredible Divine Ki.
In discussions that center around these hypothetical fusions, fans have aptly named them Ultra Vegito and Ultra Gogeta, since they’re profoundly strong warriors seemingly capable of using both Divine Techniques. Due to this strength, these fusions would arguably be powerful enough to take on Beerus himself!
The Methods Of Fusion
How Would These Fusions Work?
Now, the true question as to how powerful these fusions would be lies in their proficiency with the Divine Techniques. Many argue thateach fusion takes after the personality of either character, for example, Vegito embodies Vegeta with his prideful fighting style and demeaning others below him, whereas Gogeta is more like Goku in the sense that he is very focused on the battle and has a generally kinder outlook towards other things.
If this is the case, then one possible way of them using Divine Techniques could be that they take over the one that is used by the person they are more like. So, Vegito would use Ultra Ego and Gogeta would use Ultra Instinct, making the character incredibly powerful with their specialized Divine Technique in conjunction with the already awesome strength they receive from the union of Goku and Vegeta’s newfound power.
Our two strengths aren’t just added together, they’re significantly magnified!
However, the other and far more likely way of the fusions using these Divine Techniques would be the possibility of them having the ability to use bothUltra Instinct and Ultra Ego, which would make them the strongest mortals in the multiverse. The only character who is shown to be able to use both of them, albeit to a limited capacity, is Beerus, who is not only still far more powerful than either Goku or Vegeta, but is also the strongest God of Destruction across the multiverse, as was seen in the battle where all the Destroyers went up against each other.
With Goku’s mastery over Ultra Instinct and Vegeta’s mastery over Ultra Ego, the subsequent fusion would take this knowledge and abilities and be a master of both Divine Techniques. This is seen with how Vegito and Gogeta were able to master Super Saiyan Blue in their very first time using the transformation to completely overwhelm their opponents.
However, the biggest problem here lies with how the techniques can be used together. This is becausethey’re exact opposites of one another; with Ultra Instinct being an ability that allows the body to react to attacks on its own and avoid all damage, whereas Ultra Ego toughens up the body to take even more hits to charge up an even greater attack that the user can dish out as a result of the damage taken.
One way this could work is if Vegito or Gogeta use the advantages of both abilities at once. This could happen by using Ultra Instinct defensively to dodge attacks while using the sheer might of Ultra Ego’s attacks as a means of offense. Another way is by using the ability of Vegeta’s currently unperfected Ultra Ego, by strategically only taking some damage sometimes to dish out even more powerful attacks as a result. Since Ultra Instinct allows Goku to strengthen his body like hard steel, this can be used by the fusions to take hits with Ultra Ego but remain undamaged.
