Summary
WhileDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’sroster is easily one of the biggest ever featured in a fighting game, there’s no denying that much of it is made up of different versions of the same characters. At first glance, this might seem like a downside, but it’s actually part of theBudokai Tenkaichiseries' charm. Despite these multiple versions, none of these characters are duplicates.
Each version represents a different transformation or era of the character’s journey, featuring distinct movesets, skills, and animations. But this raises an interesting question: which characters have the most versions in the game? While obvious names like Goku and Vegeta jump to mind, some not-so-obvious characters also surprisingly make the list.
Broly (Super) - Super Saiyan
Broly (Super) - Super Saiyan Full Power
When Broly first appeared inDragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan,he instantly became a fan-favorite character. Fans had never seena more terrifying, ruthless, and brutal villainin theDragon Balluniverse. Despite the original movie being non-canon, Broly’s popularity gradually grew for years. So, whenDragon Ball Super: Brolyofficially made him canon, fans were beyond thrilled.
Sparking Zeroincludes all transformations of both the original and new Broly, resulting in six unique forms of the character. This means that if players are feeling villainous, they can assemble an entire team of Brolys, with one left to spare.
Super Buu (Gohan Absorbed)
Kid Buu
What sets Buu apart from other legendaryDragon Ballvillains is the drastic differences between his forms. Each has a distinct appearance, personality, power level, and moveset. Fortunately, all six of Buu’s forms are included inSparking Zero, with each one carefully crafted to play like a different character.
But when it comes to determining which form is the strongest, while Gohan-Absorbed Buu may be considered the most powerful in the anime,Sparking Zerocrowns a clear winner: Kid Buu. His extremely fast attack speed coupled with an awesome moveset make him a force to be reckoned with.
Frieza (Z) 1st Form
Frieza (Z) - 2nd From
Frieza (Z) - 3rd From
Frieza (Z) - 4th From
Frieza (Super)
Golden Frieza
When it comes to iconic anime villains, few can compare to the mighty Lord Frieza. He introduced a new echelon of power toDragon Ballthat took the series to a whole new level. While transformations existed in the series before, Frieza revolutionized the concept with his multiple forms.
Sparking Zerofeatures all five Frieza forms fromDragon Ball Z,along with his short-lived Mecha Frieza version and his Golden transformation. This secures him eight slots on the roster. Hopefully, one day, fans will get to see his latest transformation, Black Frieza, added to the game as well.
Trunks (Melee) - Super Saiyan
Super Trunks
While Gohan is widely considered the most iconic half-Saiyan in the series, Trunks isn’t too far behind. From his legendary debut in the Android Saga, Trunks quickly became an extremely popular character in theDragon Ballfanbase. He then went on a training arc in the subsequent Cell Saga, unlocking new transformations.
WhenDragon Ball Superarrived, Trunks received even more love from Toriyama, with him obtaining a form that could rival the power of the Gods. With all these different forms and eras of the character, Trunks takes up nine slots inSparking Zero’sroster, surprisingly making him the character with the fourth most forms in the game.
Gohan (Future)
Gohan (Future) - Super Saiyan
Gohan is one of the most beloved characters in all ofDragon Ball, and for good reason.Despite possessing nearly limitless potential, surpassing even that of his father, he has always opted to avoid battle unless absolutely necessary. This humbleness likely comes from his human side, as he’s only a half-Saiyan.
InSparking Zero,Gohan has eleven versions, spanning from Kid Gohan from the Frieza Saga up to Ultimate Gohan. And with the upcoming DLC, this count is expected to shoot up to twelve, as Beast Gohan is likely to be added.
Vegeta (Super) - Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan
Vegeta (GT) - Super Saiyan 4
Keeping true to the anime,Vegeta finishes right behind his enemy-turned-rival, Goku, taking the spot of the character with the second most versions. Though Vegeta wasn’t around during the originalDragon Ball, he’s been neck-and-neck with Goku throughoutDragon Ball Z,GT,and Super, matching him in almost all his transformations, save for Super Saiyan 3.
As a result, Vegeta has fourteen distinct versions in the game. From classic versions like Saiyan Saga Vegeta to the newer versions from Super, this game has every Vegeta form a fan could ask for.
Goku (GT)
Goku (GT) - Super Saiyan 3
Goku (GT) - Super Saiyan 4
Goku (Teen)
Goku (Mini)
Given that Goku has been the face of the entire franchise since its inception, it’s no shock that he has the most versions inSparking Zero.Every era of Goku is represented, from his early days inDragon BalltoDragon Ball Daima, resulting in a total of nineteen different versions of the character.
What’s great about this variety is that each Goku plays differently. While multiple versions share his iconic moves, like the Kamehameha or Kaioken, they each add their unique flair, incorporating references from their specific points in the series. No two versions feel like duplicates, giving Goku mains plenty of playstyles to explore.
