Taken on their own, the “Driving Lessons” outfits suggested for inclusion inDragon Ball: Sparking! Zeroaren’t very notable. Goku’s orange, triangle-patterned shirt and Piccolo’s somewhat archaic streetwear ensemble would look amusing, but hardly appropriate for the over-the-top martial arts series. But in the context of the series, they’re beloved, as they’re a reference to an amusing episode fromDragon Ball Zwhere Goku and Piccolo wear casual clothes as they make a failed attempt to qualify for driver’s licenses. The event is so popular that the action-RPGDragon Ball Z: Kakarotallowed players to drive Goku’s flying carafter reliving the events of the episode.
