Summary

InDragon Ball Z, Earth’s strongest fighters are routinely challenged by threatening foes who have aspirations of global domination or destruction. Characters like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo all rely on devastating attacks that can put a stop to evil forces. Moves likeGoku’s Kamehameha, Vegeta’s Big Bang Attack, and Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon are great examples of powerful attacks that have won battles in dire situations. Unfortunately for them, the evil villains arriving on Earth also have access to their own life-threatening attacks, and no antagonist has caused more harm to the planet than Majin Buu.

Making his debut in the Fusion arc, Majin Buu turned theDragon Ball Zworld upside down with a smile on his face, a near-indestructable body, and an array of transformations and attacks that left Earth’s strongest fighters on the brink of defeat. After making his transformation to Super Buu, the powerful pink villain busted out some of the strongest attacks Goku and the group faced, but none were as threatening as the Human Extinction Attack. The maniacal name was a perfect fit for a chaotic attack that was sure to leave the planet in shamble, and all of its inhabitants erased from existence.

Story Arc

Fusion Saga

One of the most terrifying aspects of the Majin Buu character is his absorption ability, which not only consumes the power of the target but also grants Majin Buu the knowledge of their attacks. After absorbing Gotenks and Piccolo, Super Buu obtains the battle intellect of the Namekian race paired withGotenks' Super Saiyan 3 power, allowing him to match Ultimate Gohan in battle and play mind games with the hybrid Saiyan, enough to absorb him as well. As powerful as he eventually becomes, Super Buu, on his own merit, possesses enough power alone to become a menace to the planet.

In order to demonstrate his power,Super Buuutilizes an attack known as the Human Extinction Attack, which harnesses the danger that its name gives away. The ki attack sends countless beams of energy in a showering display up into the sky before they tumble to the earth and vaporize anything they touch. Because of the dense population in the surrounding area, Super Buu and company are fighting. This danger threatens the lives of thousands of innocent people. The most horrifying part of this maneuver is the care-free attitude Super Buu has while deploying the attack, unphased by its destruction and the harm that it has the potential of doing.

How the Human Extinction Attack is Performed

to pull off the Human Extinction Attack, Super Buu raises his arm into the air, with the palm open and facing upwards. Charging up enough ki and glowing with a pink aura, Super Buu fires off a barrage of beams high into the air. The countless beams cascade and form a dome, before dropping and targeting anything that gets in its way. The Human Extinction Attack is precise and deadly, as it is capable of destroying anything in its path, whether it’s human, man-made structure, or any living organism. Though Super Buu doesn’t appear to care about directing the beams himself, it appears he has the ability to do so, should he choose to.

Notable Uses Of The Human Extinction Attack

The Time Super Buu Attempted Global Annihilation

During Episode 256, “Empty Planet”, Super Buu arrives at The Lookout, hoping to receive his promise of facing a strong challenger. While nobody is prepared to fight, Piccolo reminds Super Buu that they were given two days to produce a worthwhile opponent and still had one day, giving them time to train up Goten and Trunks insidethe Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Unfortunately for Piccolo, Super Buu trended on the side of impatience and demanded to face someone he could unleash his power on. With desperate times calling for desperate measures, Piccolo suggests destroying all humans on Earth to fulfill his lust for destruction.

Raising his hand to the sky, Super Buu unleashes the first instance of the Human Extinction Attack, vaporizing nearly all of Earth’s inhabitants in one attack. This devastating blast is also recognized as thestrongest single attack inDragon Ball Z, thanks to its destructive powers and wiping out humanity in a matter of minutes. The only survivors remaining from the attack, aside from those on The Lookout or off the planet, were Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, Mr. Satan, and Bee. The former two were skilled enough to dodge the attack, while the latter were spared by the influence Good Buu had on Super Buu at the time the energy was released.

Aw, don’t cry. Everyone has to die sometime.

In the Dragon Ball Super manga,Fused Zamasuuses an attack similar to the Human Extinction Attack, sending out a barrage of energy beams into the air and crashing them down at any target in the surrounding area. Fused Zamasu uses both hands to deploy a wider range of beams, and appears to be more desperate than the calm and cool demeanor of Super Buu. Unlike Super Buu’s devastating results, Fused Zamasu’s attack didn’t wipe out anything in its path, as the planet was mostly empty during the battle and the remaining fighters were able to dodge and block the waves of ki.
