Honorable Mentions: Vegito And Goku Black
Both Vegito and Goku Black are generally considered to be among the most powerful characters across all ofDragon Ball. However, neither of these characters can technically be considered swordsmen since they don’t use asword in the traditional sense, although in terms of sheer might, they are far more powerful than any of the other characters on this list. However, both of them have been shown to use energy swords.
Vegito’s first appearance was in the Buu Saga, where he shocked the world by introducing his Spirit Sword; a long and powerful blade made purely of Ki that was able to cut through anything and was synonymous with the fusion. Goku Black also utilized a similar technique by making an equally powerful Ki sword, which he upgraded in his Super Saiyan Rose form into a powerful scythe that could cut dimensions.

Dabura was introduced as Babidi’s main henchman in the Buu Saga and was called the Demon King, implying that it was he who ruled over the mysterious Demon Realm. Although the series has gone far past the level of strength that Dabura possesses, he was still quite a formidable foe back when the Buu Saga was airing, seen to be strong enough to giveSuper Saiyan 2 Gohana run for his movie.

Although his strength was already great, Dabura also managed to attain the infamous Darkness Sword, which he was able to form into his hand out of thin air. This sword was extremely powerful and Dabura’s strength with it was greatly magnified, as he was seen to effortlessly cut through massive rock formations with this weapon. However, the sword was eventually broken by Gohan toward the end of their battle.

Tapion was a legendary hero within the setting of theDragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragonmovie. In the film, the powerful monster named Hirudegarn would go around reducing entire cities to rubble, so Tapion and his brother, Minotia, imprisoned the beast by using their special ocarinas, essentially becoming its guardians. However, after the beast escapes, Tapion finds himself on Earth, relying on the help ofthe Z-Fighters to take down the threat.

Although he exists outside the official canon of the series, Tapion is a fan-favorite character who is fondly remembered to this day because of his personality and great design. Moreover, he is the wielder of the mythical Brave Sword, an enchanted and powerful blade that was eventually passed down to Trunks after Hirudegarn was defeated as Tapion stated he no longer had any need for it. Tapion was incredibly powerful, especially for the time period the film is set in, and his skills with the Brave Sword were incredible.

In the continuity of the movie, the Souls Cleansing Machine is responsible for cleansing souls before their reincarnation. However, due to the overload of the souls in the machine, it breaks down and the negative energy from it forms Janemba, who is a demon who can distort reality and is defined as the definition of evil.

His most notable techniques alter reality itself, as he is seen to rip holes in dimensions, create portals to other locations, and atomize his body to form somewhere else. Moreover, he also uses an incredibly powerful and lethal blade called the Dimension Sword, which allows him to use his previously mentioned dimension-altering powers. Although this weapon was a small club initially, Janemba was able to alter it into a weapon that can cut through the very fabric of space, can even create portals, as well as send powerful slashes over a great distance.

Undoubtedly the most iconic swordsman in the entire series,Future Trunks is one of the best charactersin theDragon Ballfranchise. With his incredible design, tragic backstory, and awesome fighting style, he has firmly made a name for himself as a fan-favorite character who steals the scene whenever he’s present, and one of the best parts about his overall aura has to do with the fact that he’s a swordsman. Most fighters in the series, especially the Saiyans, rely on their physical might and powers, so when Trunks made his debut with a sword, fans were caught off-guard.
Even in the darkest of times, we can find the light if we only remember to look for it.
However, this was a surprise that they loved, and Trunks' skill as a swordsman is one of the shining points of his character. One of the best moments regarding the character came at his very first showing, when Frieza made his return and everyone was quite worried about the threat he possessed, although this ended up meaning very little when Trunks came in and made short work of the Frost Demon. Moreover, his skills as a swordsman were the deciding factor in killing Merged Zamasu, where he imbued his weapon with the energy of everyone else!
