Summary

With a cast of plenty of heroes and villains inDragon Ball Z, there’s no shortage of powerful signature attacks that possess the destructive force to crush opponents. Fighters from countless planets possess the ability to harness the ki in their bodies and transfer them through the palms of their hands and other parts of their body to use as an attack. Some use them for evil purposes in hopes of global domination, while those who use their powers for good attempt to stop them.

No character inDragon Ballknows this better than Trunks, who has battled against the dangers of evil through multiple timelines. From a young age, Trunks has trained alongside his father, Vegeta, in hopes of one day surpassing the Prince of Saiyans and becoming the strongest fighter in the universe. In order to do so, Trunks has built up a strong roster of different attacks, which includes the Double Buster.

World Tournament Saga

Though Trunks is a character that first appeared in the mainDragon Ball Ztimeline as a younger man from the future, there are two versions of Trunks that come packed with their own powers and abilities. For example,Future Trunks has attacks like the Buster Cannonand Burst Attack, while Kid Trunks uses a different series of moves, like the Double Buster. Due to his youthful age and nature, the Double Buster isn’t nearly as powerful as Future Trunks' moveset, but it does pack a wallop and can catch an opponent off guard, especially if they take Kid Trunks lightly.

Known as a trickster, Kid Trunks' Double Buster is an ideal attack to use, as it’s both powerful and can be guided to wherever he pleases. Kid Trunks has demonstrated that he has full control of the Double Buster move, even after deploying the energy towards his target. As a result, the homing aspect of Double Buster is effective with a pre-emptive strike and connecting with a target from any angle.

How the Double Buster is Performed

to use Double Buster, Kid Trunks places himself in a crouch position in order to stabilize his core. Kid Trunks then brings his arms back, palms open, at just above shoulder height to gather the necessary ki for the move. Once Kid Trunks has enough energy stored, he brings his hands together and sends two waves of energy towards his target. Kid Trunks also has the ability to control the energy beams, using his hand to direct them to wherever he pleases.

Notable Uses Of The Double Buster

Kid Trunks' Wild Card Attack

While the Double Buster is a unique attack that could be a powerful weapon for Kid Trunks to use in any situation, there has only been one instance of him using it inDragon Ball Z. During a martial arts tournament, after decimating his opponents in earlier rounds, Kid Trunks was paired with Goten for aclash between hybrid Saiyans. While the two engaged in an even physical match, Kid Trunks wished to make things interesting by using ki attacks. Though they were strictly prohibited, with only physical attacks being allowed, Kid Trunks couldn’t resist using his new power.

Bending his arms back behind, Kid Trunks charged up the ki attack before launching it towards Goten, much to the chagrin of onlookers. Krillin shouted for Kid Trunks to not use the attack, but the request fell on deaf ears. Goten managed to dodge the attack and the waves were headed towards the audience watching the tournament. At this moment, Kid Trunks reveals the ace up his sleeve by using his hand to control the direction and divert it away from the audience. This isn’t the first timeDragon Ballcharacters control their attacks, but it was a marvel to see a hybrid Saiyan do it at such a young age.

Neat, huh? What do ya think?

Kid Trunks has utilized a variety of other attacks that mimic the Double Buster, though none apply the strategy of focusing on two beams instead of one. Double Buster has been featured as an attack in Kid Trunks' arsenal in video games such as theBudokaiseries andDragon Ball Heroes. While receiving different names in each individual game, the Double Buster features are the exact same as what is seen in the anime.
