Daredevil: Born Againhas been a long time coming now, with Marvel Studios having to wait multiple years after regaining TV rights to the character following the highly successful NetflixDaredevilshow. With the rights secured and the withholding period over, the studio finally greenlit the project fans had been clamoring for with the aptly namedDaredevil: Born AgainandDaredevilleading man Charlie Cox back in the titular role. The project would be drastically overhauled despite being far along in development, and more stars would return from the Netflix era, includingVincent D’Onofrio returning as the Kingpin with some prosthetic help.

While there aren’t a ton of details out there concerningDaredevil: Born Again, fans have previously gotten a fairly good look at thenew suits for Cox’s Daredevil and the villain Bullseye, but now there’s an even better view of the costume that the Man Without Fear will be donning for the upcoming series. As part of the promotional exhibition put up by Marvel Studios at the recent New York Comic-Con event, fans were able to get a close look at Daredevil’sBorn Againsuit up for display on a mannequin, complete with boots, gloves and the iconic mask. Several fans in attendance, such asBrandon Davis on YouTube, took to social media to put up pictures and videos of the display from the exhibition.

Also on display at the exhibition was Kingpin’s getup, but as the New York bigwig pretty much just wears suits, fans weren’t quite as eager to scrutinize it. As for the Daredevil costume, it keeps a lot of the Netflix-era look on the headwear and makes teaks elswhere to better suit the look that the show’s directors have in mind for the character in the MCU. Additionally, it’s also different from what Cox has used in previous MCU cameos and still a long ways off from the sort ofcomic-accurate Daredevil look that Cox has had foised on him in MCU fanart. Most notably, the suit still doesn’t have its comic variant’s iconic Daredevil emblem on the chest area, keeping it in line with the previous live-action designs in that respect.

The first video preview of the suit in action made it look like theDaredevil: Born Againsuit will be well-suited to the promised brutal action that has fans skeptical, and the chance for much closer inspection seems to highlight the same thing. Taking form over function is a pretty important part of adapting a medium like comic books to live action, especially if the show is meant to appeal to an older audience with gritty, grounded plot motion and action. This is going to be especially important for the MCU’s Daredevil, as new fans will expect that vibe from the show following acts likeCaptain America: Brave New WorldandThunderbolts*,and fans from the Netflix era will come to the show’s premiere with misgivings about the MCU’s more kid-friendly content strategy. To really succeed, Daredevil needs to remain a mature show made for the audience it most appeals to.

Even more so than the tone, it’s become a matter of the utmost importance thatDaredevil needs to stay a street-level hero in the MCU, and that includes looking like one. For better or worse, the suit looks distinctly like it belongs on a gritty TV show and will likely keep the same vibe when the Man Without Fear inevitably needs to lend a helping hand to the franchise’s other heroes.
