Prometheus in Ancient Greek Myths

Prometheus is a major figure in Greek mythology, and isa Titan rather than one of the Olympian gods. Prometheus plays a pivotal role in the creation myth of humans, where he crafted them from clay and granted them life. However, he’s best known for tricking the Olympians when he stole fire from Olympus and gifted it to humanity and, with it, the knowledge of technology and civilization. In punishment for this crime, Zeus chained Prometheus to a mountain and sent an eagle to eat his liver every day, which would regrow overnight in an endless cycle.

To balance the new gains that mankind had received from Prometheus, Zeus created Pandora, the first woman, and sent her to the mortals with a jar filled with innumerable plagues and disasters. Once she reached the mortals, she opened the jar and unleashed these disasters upon the world, ending the Golden Age of mankind.

Prometheus' Role in Hades 2

According toHades 2’s lore, Prometheus fought alongside the Olympians in theoriginal war against Chronos. However, he has now switched sides and fights for Chronos. He hasn’t outright stated his reasons for doing so, nor has he stated his goals, but other characters have concluded that he may be doing so for revenge, to support the mortals that he created, or to support Chronos as a fellow Titan.

Another reason he could be supporting Chronos is because of his ability to see outcomes, as he may have foreseen that Chronos will win the war. However, it’s implied that Prometheus' motivations are more complicated than what has been concluded by other characters. He calls Melinoe an “Agent of Change”, with the implication that her role in the war is bigger than she realizes. Prometheus' role inHades 2may be to shift the status quo andchallenge Melinoe’s perspective on her role in the war.

Prometheus' Design and Combat Mechanics

Aside from the story connotations,Prometheus' design and game mechanics pay homage to his myth. He’s allied with the eagle that once tormented him, as t aids him in battle. He wears a falconers' glove on one arm to facilitate this, and has a bandage wrapped around his torso in reference to his years spent in torment. In battle, Prometheus controls multicolored flames. His role as the Titan of Foresight is depicted in his boss fight, with his targeting predicting Melinoe’s movements as she makes them, and a mini memory game integrated into the fight itself.
